Alright so I'm still trying to find the right things to put my first bag together. I have roughly $550-$600 to be spending and need everything still. Here's what I'm thinking so far and any criticisms and critiques are welcome as well as what you think is another option for anything.

Driver: http://www.rockbottomgolf.com/adams-...ul-driver.html

3 Wood: http://www.rockbottomgolf.com/adams-...rway-wood.html

Hybrid: TBD. Although I think the girlfriend's grandfather might be getting me one.

Irons: http://www.rockbottomgolf.com/adams-...irons-set.html

Putter: http://www.3balls.com/product-productid/182254

Bag: No link for it but it's the 2006 Callaway Warbird XXT stand bag

That's what I have so far and wanted to know how things looked so far. I've bashed my brain over what to get and would serve the best purpose and also have good quality and last me a little while. Any input is welcome and appreciated!

Are you really gettin all Adams clubs??? Not a good idea. They're good, but not in every category. Here's my thinking: for two years I've searched for the best clubs; read EVERYTHING I could find; talked to people, etc. What I've learned is that no one manufacturer makes the best of everything!

What I chose:
driver Taylormade Burner
3-wood Adams redline low profile
5-wood Adams redline low profile
3-hybrid Taylormade dual rescue
5-hybrid Taylormade dual rescue
6,7,8,9 Mizuno MX-25 forged
pw,sw,gw,lw Mizuno MX-25 forged
putter Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport

I'm not saying there's no better clubs out there. But I highly doubt if there's very many, at least for me.
These clubs are all easy to hit, and long!

Why is that not a good idea? I'm on a budget and quite frankly these clubs fit the budget and have some solid feedback from people using them. I'm not looking to get some of the best clubs on the market anyway since I'm just starting out. I just figured compared to other people's starter hand me down sets that this would be a nice starter for myself and wanted to know what either people thought. Maybe I'm wrong? I'm not getting these clubs because of the name on them or because I think they are some of the best on the market. I think you've taken the point of my post out of context.

Hey, God bless you! I'm sure you'll do fine.

But I've done this for a LOT of years, and I was only trying to help a young person avoid making a mistake. Of course, you'll probably never realize it!

So do what you want. And someday, maybe you'll learn to not be so defensive and learn from those who have made many mistakes.

Over and out.

I would recommend buying a better set of irons and skipping on the rest. Save your money for a decent driver when your swing is solid enough to benefit from it. Odds are, you'd be wasting your time hitting driver off tees at this point anyways.

It's hard to recommend a cheap, lower-quality putter, so I'm going to recommend looking for a deal on a used one from Odyssey or Yes!.

I think you'll end up with better scores, and a better overall investment if you avoid cutting corners in general and instead buy a set of quality, fitted irons.

I threw my clubs into the lake so it's time to start over...

    • Day 37: did my drill swings in the garage with foam balls for about 15 minutes. Working on getting my backswing more turned and then going from there.
    • Thanks but honestly… I don't know any other way. I don't mind being wrong so long as I know where to go from there. I don't like being wrong — I'd love to get things right (which is different than "being right"). I recommend grabbing a furniture slider or a paper plate or something, and doing something like this: First, make a swing where you let your trail foot swing out as you turn, then twist that foot back in. From DL and FO, it'll look like this: Then, during a regular backswing, try to twist your foot in slightly (demonstrated in the left image): You'll notice a crease along the trail side of your hip, your pelvis will "fold" into that thigh (internal rotation of the hip joint), and your "bits" will be squished a little between your pelvis and your thigh. Ben Hogan said once: "At the top of the back swing the groin muscle on the inside of your rt [sic] leg near your right nut will tighten," Hogan wrote. "This subtle feeling of tightness there tells you that you have made the correct move back from the ball." I don't know about that, but you will probably feel something down around that area.
    • Yep. I think it will start to feel even more athletic when we start on the downswing stuff later.  I know, it's just I want to be younger so I have more time to enjoy the changes. 🙂
    • I need to drop a couple of stone. 🙂 😛    Yep. Yeah, but in the end, it feels more athletic, like you're actually using your legs, yeah? As you know… we use the best available info we have. Like others, I was fooled a little by 2D images for awhile (moving or still). Unlike others, I've learned and grown and moved on since then, while they're still looking at their images (often from lousy camera angles).
    • Day 12 - 2025-12-31 Limited time today, and heavy rains here. 5-10 minutes of mirror work for full swing, working on trail side.
