I was wondering, should I get the Cobra FP's or the S9's?
I have the older models of the FP's and like them a lot. I just want to go to regular steel shafts.
FP

S9

Thanks

Go with the S9's. I use them and love them. S9's are meant for better players than FP's are.

Thats totally backwards. The S9's have a thicker topline and are classified as "ultra-game improvement" irons. The FP's are still "game improvement" but the s9's are defiently bulkier. I'd suggest finding a 2007 FP set. Those are better than the 2008 model.

Cody is right, the S9 are super game improvement irons with a huge top line. The FP's are for lower handicaps. You can also get the 2007 FP's for $349. Great deal

I already have the 07' model. They are graphite shafts and I want to go to steel.

Check the price and see if it would be cheaper to just get them reshafted, because if so, that'd probably be a better plan. But if you are dead set on a whole new set of irons, then go for the FPs.

i have the 08 fp's, there great, really long compared to my old set
FP's. The SP is a SGI for a higher handicapper.

I have the 08 FP's as well.
Great clubs, I have nothing bad to say about them.

the topline on the FPs didn't bother me...then again they didn't on the s9's either. what did bother me was being able to see the bottom of the cavity on the s9's though the 4I if I remember. It has a wide sole so it comes too far back and for me the way I set up and I was able to see the back of the cavity on long irons. That could be just me though and I would say find some. hold them. swing them. hit with them.

Objectively, the FPs are good forgiving GI clubs. They are lighter than the S9s, which doesn't take much. If you like the greater offset, thicker top line, and thicker soles, they should do you good. You're already playing AP1s, which are, in my opinion, better clubs. I wouldn't make the switch.

I played the '07 FPs for a full season. I was coming off of Nike forged Pro-Combos with the stock graphite shafts, thought I wanted something more forgiving and with steel shafts. Well, I was right about the shafts, but the FPs looked and felt like shovels. Couldn't hit'm worth a lick. Never got comfortable. Finally got rid of'em the other day. Don't miss them at all.

The Nikes on the other hand... Looking forward to re-shafting those next time I visit my parents and get a chance to pick them up out of their basement.

If you can hold out for another month, the Cobra SZ is coming out in mid-March. It appears to be a game-improvement club with a wider sole. I saw it in a recent TGW catalog. It looks good, no bold colors and comes with typical Nippon shaft which I like.

I am very happy with my 2007 FP with steel reg. shaft, they are long and forgiving. I've tried the 2007 S9 and they actually are very forgiving but feel (and look) much more like hybrids than blades.

I hit both the FP and S9 before deciding to go with the S9. The thicker top line doesn't bother me at all. I'd like to have more of the look of blades, but what mattered to me was the look of a lower score on my scorecard. That's what the S9's have helped me achieve. I'd hit hot pink hybrids if they helped lower my score, but that's just me.

I have the 2007 S9s now.. There definitely a super game improvement club where as FP are considered more "intermediate." If you are already playing the FP's down take a step back to the S9s. Great clubs dont' get me wrong..I love what they've done for my game but its time for a little more finess. The FPs will give you more control than the S9s.
