I don't like the look of them either.
I've never really been a huge fan of any of those oil drenched or raw type finishes on wedges.

you can soak the oil cans in coke and the finish will come off leaving you with a raw vokey. Ive neber done it but have seen the results and they look good. you would just have to be aware that the raw vokey would get rusty very easily.

man i love the look, set up, feel, just wish i was guaranteed a "gimme" everytime

I think they look better than chrome because I love to intimidate my playing partners. There is nothing better than knocking a wedge closer and tigher with more spin with a club that looks like it was found on the bottom of a lake rather than a shiny brand new chrome club

just a cool feeling

Except that a wedge that is rusty does not produce more spin...

Less, actually... Thats why I never understood why Oilcan or Raw Vokeys are so popular. Chrome wedges have more of a protective finish, so the grooves dont wear down as quickly.

Oh well, I guess its like so many things where you either get it or you dont and if you dont get it, there is no point explaining it to you, because you will never understand. Obviously, when it comes to Raw or Oilcan Vokeys, I just dont get it! It would be much like trying to explain sex to an alien from another planet.

As far as I know its a feel thing, raw and rusty is supposedly softer.

Explain it to me, specifically? Because I'm agreeing with you!

I dont really notice a difference in feel from the chrome to the oilcan.

Im just saying that its personal preference. Some people like the raw look, others like the chrome.

Like I said, I like the protective finish of the chrome. Golf is expensive enough, so I want something that is going to last as long as possible.

i had the vokey chrome wedges, switched to the oil can spin milled and love them, i dont get blinded by the glare from the wedge when i open the blade up, plus i just like that dirty look they have

I wasn't commenting on performance... this thread is how they are ugly, hence aesthetics

I was saying I enjoy always being inside of people who have "good looking club" This is especially true if the person doesn't know you're playing a vokey... he assumes its cheap and old but I'll stick something closer than them

in terms of feel I'm not a massive fan of either the chrome or the oil can, vokeys whatever their finish feel clicky

I want a gunmetal/ raw forged wedge... not many out there

Titleist: I think if you look somewhere alot of people send their clubs in to be customized, or do themselves. I seen a vokey sent in that got a Black finish with an orange paintfill. Looked sooo nice.

Or you can do that thing where it makes the finish blue. That looks awesome too.

Nah, I'll just play it as-is. The club works well, its just sooooo ugly. I was merely commenting on how Im not a fan of the oilcan finish.

I don't like the coloring of the Oilcan finish. I guess that it would be helpful to reduce glare, but I don't like it. I much prefer the Black Nickel finish of my Mizuno wedges.

Looks aren't everything. I know when I first put the first generation Callaway Big Bertha driver and fairway woods in my bag back in 1990 nobody really liked the looks of them. Thought they looked like clamshells on a stick. That opinion changed quickly when they saw how they performed.

Vokeys? I don't care what they look like as long as you can stop that shot on a dime.
