Why? In all clubs or just some? Did you try stiff shafts and then see an improvements with x-stiff?

I use rifle 6.5 which are borderline xstiff. I hit the ball high and far and these shafts help keep the ball down with a more boring trajectory. I bought my clubs on ebay and these came with them. If I get a custom set I will probably get 7.0.

I bought a demo'd iron set of Taylormades (see my signage) for 1/2 the price because the 6 iron was nicked on the sole, and they came with upgraded grips and x100 shafts. At first, I couldnt hit with them to save my life, but in 6 months, i dont think i'd change them out because what I lack in distance compared to my old clubs, i gain in accuracy.

Example, my previous iron sets were (stiff) graphite shafts. I could hit a 7 iron about 180-185 on average. With the xstiff, my 7 iron now goes 165-170. However, I'm ALOT more confident with the x100's than i am with the graphites. I just have alot more control.

I have to agree with the previous poster that you're ball flight may be a bit lower, but honestly, not by much. I have friends who have graphite shafts and i can still outheight them on my normal shots.

I played a round yesterday and my friend pointed out that since we last played together, 3 months ago, my game is much more fluid and consistent. The clubs forced me to play to the them, and not the other way around. I would suggest going with S300 shafts, or something similar. They'll be stiff but give you enough control. Right now im young and powerful enough that x100's are good for me. In 10 years from now, i see myself adjusting down to S300 type shafts...

I use X-stiff in my driver. I wish I had put 6.5 project x's in my ap2's to knock the ball flight down some but I am happy with the 6.0's they are just as stiff as an x100.

I switched because on my driver the xstiff shaft knocked my ball flight down and took a lot of the spin off. I also saw a few videos of my swing and the regular stiff shaft looked like a rubber band when i swung.

I use and x-stiff shaft in my driver and i noticed a big improvement from the stiff. The ball fly's lower and straighter. You can tell if you need a x-stiff shaft by getting on a swing speed monitor. If your driver swing speed is over 100mph on average then you should probably go with the x-stiff. That is just with the driver though. I'm not sure what the numbers are with irons.

+1, I also have X-stiff in my irons. My swing speed w/my driver runs between 110mph and 118mph. I don't recall what that resulted in with my 5 iron however. As fitpro3 noted above, the X-stiff shafts help keep my ball flight a little lower. They also help me work the ball as well.

With stiff shafts, or God forbid regular, I have a lot of timing issues. With a swing speed over 100mph you can really load a regular or stiff shaft which makes timing difficult.

I use DG x100's in my irons...everything else is stiff. I originally got them because I was fighting a pretty severe hook and I've never had any trouble with height. Honestly, I don't see a lot of difference between the x100 and the s300 as far as distance or trajectory - the x100's may be 5 yards or so shorter and just a bit lower - but, the feel is definitely boardier.

I've been toying with the idea of softstepping my irons by one club, but only for feel. I'm completely happy with the accuracy and overall performance of the x100's. My driver swing speed is ~105-110 and 6 iron ss is ~88 with a fairly smooth tempo.

I've played x stiff shafts for several years, but after 4 years of playing very little due to marriage and kids, I have now found that I am slowing down my swing in favor of better mechanics and more solid contact (just turned 35). So I just picked up a set of used clubs with S300 shafts which seems to suit me a whole lot better.

Anybody looking for a used set of Cleveland TA7 3-PW, they have Steel X Dynamic Gold shafts and newer Lamkin grips. They are also 1 inch over standard in length and 2* upright. Great for me as I'm 6'5. I ordered them new in 2002 custom from Cleveland. Used, not abused condition..except the p wedge is bent ever so slightly due to a fat shot on hardpan. I personally don't notice it as it doesn't effect play, but someone esle may want to reshaft that club. Otherwise, these babies are ready to go. $150 shipped or will consider any offers, i can email pics.

I play stiff in everything except my 4 wood which is xstiff. I couldn't resist buying it on ebay for only $20. It's a Ben Hogan C455 which I choke down on and use generally as my 5 wood since I already play a 3 wood.

Thanks for all the replies. I play x100s in my irons, but my driver is just stiff.

Distance has never been a problem for me, and I definitely feel more in control with the xstiffs.
