So i'm thinking about getting a 2-iron. I've finally figured out how to use my 3 and 4 iron off a tee and the ground fairly consistently. I've had people suggest getting a hybrid, but I don't to. The reason for my insanity are three-fold:

1.) I want to able to hit low shot (kinda like a stinger) when it gets windy and the driver wont do, which happens about half the time around Chicago
2.) I want a club to use where i can hit a low shot if im behind a tree and dont want to necessarily pitch out
3.) I like the challenge (as if this game isnt hard enough and challenging enough)

So i'm looking for suggestions. Is it worth it, not worth it? Let me know and thanks in advance...

I have a Rescue Hybrid which I believe is 17* and I absolutely love it. I use it for all second shots on a par 5. I don't even see the need to have a regular 2 iron when my hybrid is easy to hit and long.

You and i are in the same boat. FORGET WHAT EVERYONE ELSE SAYS. NOW!.

Everyone will try any convert you to hybrids. There are some hybrids, the rescue tp and the 585H that would fulfill your purpose, they are very responisve to knock downs and such.

I personally just dropped my 3 iron in favor of a 2 iron, so i go 2-4-5-6-7-8-9-PW. Works wonders off the tee, and is a par five tamer, you just gotta be good and confident iwth it.

I think a 2-iron is a great idea for windy days. Id personally go with a 2H that is more of an iron style hybrid (like a Mizuno MP Fli Hi 18*) because they are easier to hit than a traditional long iron, but if you hit your 3-iron pretty well, you might be fine with just a traditional 2-iron.

I´m for sure not in the hybrid camp - i hate these things - but every time i´m in the deep rough and i barely see my ball, i wish i would have it in my bag instead of my caddy box...

I bought my 2iron and when its windy it gets a spot in my bag BUT i cant really say, that this thing saved me shots actually so far. 1. You can hit stingers with woods or driver - you just have to adjust tee height/position and hit a punchy draw kinda shot 2. Behind trees or offline where you need these shots you are normally in the semi-/rough and making clean contact with a 2i is often pretty difficult - same can be done with delofted higher irons. 3. Its not really a challenge - either your swing can hit it or not. If not - it wont get you far if you try practicing with a 2iron. So overall for me i could get around these points without a 2i and personally i wouldnt buy it again.
