My dad recently gave me a 56 degree vokey. Which is great because I used a PW for ALL of my shots 100 yards in and it worked pretty good i got used to it. I did need it for the sand but thats all i used it for for a while, but now i tried using it for my chipping club. I was doing alright on the practice green and then i played in my first ever tournament. I shot the worst round of my life at that course. I flew over the green back and forth countless times.

Now my question is: This wedge is super old. 5+ years. The face is NICKED like crazy. And i do notice alot of spin but its so hard to get the ball up with it. It feels like im hitting it with a bare club. I'm gonna upload some pictures tommorrow, but would nicks on the club face make the wedge "bad" or is it just my shot that needs a little more work?

Also, if im GOOD at 100 yards in with nothing but a PW should i even try to change it?

I am not one that believes in chipping with such a high lofted club. The way to check what trajectory you are going to get on pitches and chips, is to step on club face until it is flat against the ground. The shaft height is the trajectory you will get when struck.

Yuo can try a groove sharpener. www.groovesharpener.com has a great one. As for nicks, unless they are deep, it should not affect the shot too much.

You are playing the Nickent irons and they are much lighter in weight than the Vokeys. That could be the issue you are running into. Try hitting the Vokey in a full swing for 65-75 yards and see what happens. If you are hitting your PW 100, that would be the right distance I am guessing. The Nickent PW is 46 degrees I believe. This should help quite a bit. I beieve the extra weight is causing you to catch it thin, which is keeping it down. Hope this helps.

    • I had a few tweeks in the bag. I took out my Mizuno pro FliHi 3 iron replaced it with a Titleist GT2 7 Wood. what a change that is, so easy to hit, it goes so high without it ballooning on me. I couldn't get rid of my callaway woods ( Rogue ST Max LS ) but changed the shafts to Diamana BB 63 stiff for the driver and 73 stiff for the 3 wood. Than i got myself a new putter Odyssey S2S jailbird yes i joined the centershaft family
    • First off all i think you should use the same ball all the time. We all strive for consistency on the course, the only factor you can be sure it will be always the same is your ball if you always use the same. So i think we should always use the same. I recently switched from Titleist Pro V1x to Srixon Z-Star Diamond because it i get a bit softer feel around the greens and same results on driver and irons
