This is a question that's been gnawing at me for a few months.

I have a set of second-hand clubs I bought from a guy for cheap that included two Callaway knockoffs called the "Patriot Missile II" (a 3-wood and a 5-wood.) I knew they were knockoffs when I bought them (my game isn't good enough to spend big dollars on actual Callaways yet), but after doing some research a bit later I found out that the company who produced them, Wood Arts, was, in fact, successfully sued by Callaway for copyright infringement, had to pay a settlement and was forced to stop selling these and a bunch of other illegally copied clubs. Plus, a bunch of clubs they had produced were seized by the government.

Funny thing is, I actually hit them pretty well. So these are my questions:

1) Is anyone familiar with this line of clubs? I don't condone counterfeiting, but I'm curious if there was a matching driver and/or 7-wood made, and if so, if there are some still floating around and available for cheap cheap cheap? (Like, five bucks or less cheap.)
2) If Wood Arts paid a settlement to Callaway and admitted their wrongdoing in a court of law, are they still considered illegal clubs?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

This isn't really a counterfeit club. It's a knockoff of the Callaway design, marketed under its own name. A counterfeit would have had fake Callaway logos and have been sold as a Callaway club when it wasn't.

No idea if you can find them anywhere, but there's no issue with owning the club.

I threw my clubs into the lake so it's time to start over...

*chuckle*

I almost had to threadjack my own thread. :)

May as well re-ask the question, just for good measure:

Still looking for info on the Patriot Missile II line of fairway woods -- anyone know if there are a driver and/or 7-wood floating around out there? I have a 3-wood and 5-wood I hit pretty well I'd like to match up.

Thanks for any assistance.

If you are a Democrat no problem. If you voted for Trump Muller may indite you. Seriously they are not illegal play them until you get better and can benefit from better clubs.

    • I believe I have finally figured out the grip! And I can tell a difference when it’s not right. I’d like to thank Erik for all of his patience and my supporters @GolfLug & @boogielicious for being there in my low spots. Of course, my wife & kids for the hours spent watching me grip a club incorrectly, quietly mocking me but not out loud.
    • Shot an 89, 12.2 differential.
    • There's no such thing as the spirit of the rule. And, you do realize how insanely small the time window and the level of water is for water to come up with one person standing there but not another person, right? It's basically never going to actually happen like that. There are lots of rules like this: a 7' tall person's knee height drop is from higher up than a 4' tall junior's drop. Their driver is also longer, so they get a larger relief area. What are you gonna do? Beyond that, my reply to you is the same as @DaveP043's: write a better one. This one is easy to understand and enforce. The penalty for playing from a wrong place is two strokes, so no, it's not significant. In that sense, the potential advantage must be > 2 strokes. No, it's not "irrespective of it." That's why the penalty exists. If it's significant, it's a DQ, which is the ultimate penalty. See above. They don't need to judge that. No, he didn't. He could have taken one stroke to drop in the same place. This was already stated. Instead, he paid two. Of course they do.
    • Yes, a ball going faster will go farther… but it's nearly impossible for "all other parameters" to remain the same. "A ball going faster with the same of everything else will go farther" is pretty rudimentary stuff. The entire swing. The handle moves the whole time. The golf swing is a matter of both translational and rotational forces. And yet it's also kicked out a little, as it's not directly behind the motion of the hand path at that instant.
    • bought a used epic driver 3 years ago treated me well i am 72 bought with senior shaft a friend of bought a brand new  ping 440 claims he hits straighter and added 10 to 15 yards on his drive i know drivers are the most frequent club bought is a new driver that much better
