brass putters

I have never had the pleasure of putting with a brass putter but love the looks of them. I was wondering how the feel of these putters was. Do the feel soft or hard, responsive or dead? In particular I was looking at the brassmaster putter on golfsmith. I dont know what it is about that golden color but I love it. Also, how do brass putters age. I know the patina, but do they get tarnished or anything? Thanks for any info you guys have...

Brass putters have a very soft feel to them. They arent quite as soft as a putter with an elasomer insert in the face (like an Odyssey), but they have a very soft feel.

I have an old Ping Anser in brass. As TitleistWI says it's soft but not as soft as putters with inserts. In any case, putters are a very, very personal thing. Go with what looks, feels and performs best for you.

I used an old Petron brass putter for a couple of years.It was a rearly basic lump of brass on the end of a stick,worked great though ,very responsive I think Ill go and find it ,its in the shed somewhere................

I have a BrassMaster M1 putter (brass, heel-toe) with a T2C (super heavy) shaft and Crown Jumbo (massive) grip. I built the putter with a slightly closed face. It feels very soft, but not mushy like some insert putters can. In my hands, bronze, insert, zinc, aluminum, and steel putters just don't feel as responsive as brass. I have had the putter for around nine months and it still looks very shiny and non-tarnished. I love my putter!

I do think that brass putters have more feel than putters with elasomer inserts. Ive tried out a few Odyssey putters that had elasomer inserts and while they are very soft at impact, you dont really get any feedback. They have what I would call a very, "dead" feel to them.

With brass putter, you know instantly whether you hit the ball in the center of the clubface and whether or not you struck it hard enough or too hard.

I'd rather have real brass than a mushy insert putter. I use a brass headed putter at the public course and a Sc flanged blade at the CC. I like the old Bullseye putter

Warning;
Some alloys with brass actually harden with age. I believe BeCu heads harden with age. Stainless Steel is harder and the feel is different.

I agree, I love my Bullseye too. Thats one club I will never get rid of.
