Stupid me allowed a friend (beginner) hit my superquad, and hit it so ugly that he put a tiny dent in the top toe area. Only noticed it today, but it still hit great. Probably only cosmetic, but since I keep my clubs in mint condition, aesthetic appeal plays big.

I'm going to the store to try to get warranty. Anyone else dealt with similar issues?

I read all of the fine print on www.taylormadegolf.com regarding their warranties. The sum of it is that because "a third party" (a.k.a. your friend) broke it, the warranty is void. There were several other possible obstacles to getting your warranty honored, but not as definite as the before mentioned. They are:

Damage not "normal and customary"
Warranty only covers "defects in materials and workmanship"
Must originally be purchased from authorized dealer
"Original cash register receipt" required
Abuse, defacement, misuse, or neglect voids warranty

Sorry.

I put a good size dent in my BRAND new (1 round) FT-5 this week.

I was taking a practice swing at the back of the tee box. Little did I know that there was a slightly raised rock hidden just under the grass. The result was a dime sized dent on the sole. I almost sh*t myself, but just kept my fingers crossed that it didn't effect performance.

Glad to report the damage appears to just be aesthetic. It's a bummer, though.

I did read the warranty statement, but I would like to hear from people who approached TM for a replacement. Was it successful? I just want to know if they follow their warranty in every case, or are they more lenient in real life...

I dont think you can really get a warranty claim on that because its not the result of poor workmanship. They will deam it was caused by, "user abuse" and deny your warranty claim.

Yes, exactly what I was thinking.

Think about it, you lend your new car to a friend of yours and he runs it in to a tree and puts a dent in the front end, are you going to take it back to the dealer and have a go at getting a warranty claim? Nah, I didn't think so.

Do you really think this is something to contact them about? It was clearly my fault and I'm not one to take advantage ... have you had that kind of experience, bombinthedriver? Anyone else think it's worth a call to them?

Sure, you got nothing to lose. Do a quick search on this forum for Callaway Customer Service (or even Google for that matter!), nothing but rave reviews.

Forgot to add, if you call, be honest about it.

Yup, definetly be honest. No doubt they have heard all the excuses and BS stories you can imagine, so they are going to know if you are being dishonest.

Does anybody have any suggestions for what to say to Callaway if I call them? I feel kind of funny calling so I'm not quite sure what to ask them ... or ask them for.

Hi,

Are you kidding me about being worried about "not lying"? These companies make millions of dollars. You think that the club you paid 400-500 for cost that much to make? I'm not telling you to lie, but there's no shame in demanding a replacement especially if you have other callaway clubs. Get them to replace your driver.

Hi,

Obviously not from your perspective. Good grief! What would give him the right to "demand" anything and to "get them" to do anything given that the problem would not qualify for a warranty claim?

Now...if he rang up or wrote a really nice letter explaining the situation, as a matter of goodwill they may well help him out, but I can guarantee that the approach you have suggested will get him nowhere.

Hi,

No shame in demanding that a club you damaged be replaced under warranty? This is an example of the kind of ethics that is sinking this country.
