Do you guys keep them for record? Toss them? what do you do with them when you are done? I keep them around Until i am good enough to buy scorekeeping software and enter them all in.

I am the handicap sec for a society and can be taking home up to 20 scorecards every weekend. The software does it for me.

If you're playing, you're good enough to use the s/w. Something with statistics will help you focus on deficiencies.

right but I mean usually the clubhouse provides a scorecard and there isnt anywhere to write all that down. So do you suggest I either make a scorecard of my own that has all that info on it and just fill it in as I go, or get some software on my PDA?

Golf digest has a free score keeping thing on their website that figures your handicap for you and there are score cards to print off that you can track GIR, putts, chips, and a few other things.

I keep a scorecard in my back pocket just for my own score and stats. I use the one on the cart to keep everyone else's score.

Line 1: Score
Line 2: Putts and length of first putt
Line 3: Fairway hit, fairway missed left or right, GIR
Line 4: Penalties, lost balls and distance to green after drive
Any lines or space below that I use to mark down anything else important that happens as I go or to add up scores.

Also, if the scorecard has a layout of each hole on it, I mark approximately where my drive landed on each hole so I can go back and get a better idea of distance via Google Earth after the round.

If I ever get my stupid scanner online, I will start scanning and posting them.

The importance of stats for me is to help me determine where exactly I am losing strokes. For instance, my fairways hit, driving distance and GIR are all trending up, but my scores haven't reflected that, which means I need to work on my short game and putting.

After a round it is hard to recall each and every single shot, so keeping stats gives you concrete evidence as to how you played. Sure, you scorecard will look like the Matrix...but after a while, you don't see the code anymore...

I have kept every scorecard going all the way back to 1982. Most of those early years I would stick them in my bag and let them accumulate. Then at the end of the season, they ended up in a box in the basement. It's interesting to look back through them and see freinds and partners that you once played with. Brings back alot of memories. Also, seeing how a particular course's score card evolved over time. One place I played at, always had a photo of a particular hole on the front. The early cards had people in bold plaid pants next to trees 10 feet tall. Now those same trees are huge.

I guess I need to learn how to score my games.. I didnt know there was any more to it than your par ;( like how to score fairways, penalties, sand saves? and GIR and Up and Down... any help?

This is how I format my Scorecard:

There are 3 boxes for Names on my scorecard, On the first I put my name, below that I put a G for GIR, and below that i put an F for Fairways.

If I miss the fairway i Put which way i missed it -> or <- or if i hit the fairway ^

If I hit a GIR i put a Check or an X. On the bar with my name, I write my casual score, and then a little number besides my score on how many putts I've had.

so how do you score fairway? I mean if you hit it once and it goes to the left, and then you hit again and you hit center how do you score both? or does that mean only on your initial Tee off?

Posted
Fairways are only tracked from the Tee box, and its where your ball is at the time it is stopped. If it hits the fairway, and then goes into the rough, it is not counted as a fairway.

and what about GIR, Sand Saves, and Up/Down?

also with Penalties say I hit my ball out of bounds and dropped in, do I mark that as penalty?
