Saw my father in law hit the ugliest ace ever...this low screaming slice on about a 160 yarder. Rolled up on the green and went in. Then I saw a guy hit a wedge in on a 130 yarder that went in at a slight angle and destroyed the hole.

The most fun was watching my 14 year old son hole out from 145 yards on a par 4. He hit it beyond the hole and spun it back in the jar like it was in slow motion. Really cool!

I once hit the flagstick on a 276 yard par 4. Thought I had the greatest ace but it bounced away. Oh well.

My buddies and I have a "walk-off" rule ... if we ever hit an ace we are leaving our clubs right were they are ... going to the green, retrieving the ball, and walking off the course and will never play again ... it's the greatest accomplishment in amature golf ... we'd have to quit since we wouldn't ever be able to accomplish anything better than that. Kinda going out on top if you will ...

It would be interesting to hold you guys to this bet!

I always figured mine would be off a tree, cart, or something insane lik ethat, but it was clean..... Mark my words, you guys won't quit!

I've never had one but I've seen 5 in person. Actually one of them I found in the cup but didn't see the outcome initially. My dad teed off into a morning glare on the 130ish opening hole at the old (and long gone) Colonial Palms executive par 60 course in the early '70s. My ball was long so I walked through the green and happened to glance into the cup. I was stunned. My dad is a hard trying hacker. We had no idea what to do, so we retreated to the clubhouse. They gave my dad a small Hole in One trophy, with a round area for the ball at the "O", and he still has that trophy in his den with the ball secured. BTW, it was a pathetic Japanese ball, or at least that's what my friends and I used to call them at the time, with no feel and looking mass produced and cheap.

The others were also in the Miami area during the mid to late '70s. Two friends from my high school golf team absolutely skulled tee shots that magically found the cup. One was on the short 99 yard 12th hole at old and long gone Hidden Valley executive course built on a rock pit in southwest Miami. The shot never left the ground. I was frustrated because I had nearly aced that hole at least a dozen times. The other lucky one was at the Doral par 3 course. Our golf team drove the carts for Doral's Monday qualifying that year. My pro failed to qualify but he gave me 2 sleeves of golf balls as a thank you. After the qualifying, the entire team was allowed to play the par 3 course and my friend, a good player, skidded a shot on a 150ish hole that bordered a huge water hazard. When it found the cup we all laughed like hell then sprinted toward the green, for whatever reason.

I was putting on the practice green of another old and long gone executive course in Miami -- Kendale Country Club -- when I looked up at the group teeing off on nearby #18, maybe 170 yards. A guy who I recognized as a good player hit a perfect shot that barely cleared the left front bunker and settled into the cup. They couldn't tell because the bunker shielded their view, but I reacted loudly from the putting green, and they started going nuts.

The other one was by a stranger who my dad and I were paired with. That's the least memorable because he barely reacted. I can't even remember the course.

Come to think of it, I saw 5 aces in 5 years or less as a teenager, now zero for the past 30 years. My closest is an inch and a half smack behind the cup, a controlled draw 8 iron on a 160ish hole on a mountainy North Carolina course in summer '96. I knew it was extremely close but I couldn't see the hole over the huge guarding bunker. I remember being nervous walking toward the green, then a huge letdown when I saw the result. It might have lipped out.
