I dated a skiier who was sponsored by Atomic. ALL it meant is he got their stuff, and maybe an entry fee covered now and then. Not saying this is true with your pro, but it might be.

Maybe casually ask him one day. Say you're interested in maybe working in the golf field one day and ask if there's anything you should know. Maybe prod him and say "I heard you work for Calloway, what does that mean?"

You have a good idea Julie. Julie, you know you look kind of like my second wife? I got started golfing around the age of 13. Never really took it all that serious. It was just going to be a thing I did on the weekends to hang out with my grandpa and aunts and uncles. I wanted to get a job at a golf course. Never grew the stones to actually call a couple golf courses to see what I could/would be able to do. Do as Julie said and just start a conversation with the pro and then mention that you would like to do what he does and ask what you would have to do to become a course pro. Information is never a bad thing (well sometimes it can be but not in this situation). You might realize after talking with him that you will never be able to become a golf pro, or it might burn the fire a little more and really make you work for it.

I've kept up with this thread, read all the sound cautions and reasons to not, but I still agree with this... go for it . Something I have learned in life is when you step out and attempt to accomplish something, the majority of people around you will try to pull you back and tell you you cannot do it. Most, I'm sure, are well intended because there are pitfalls and struggles ahead. But the key is not be naive, have some alternative plans, but if the passion burns and you are willing to make the necessary sacrifices, be polite to the naysayers but do not let them divert you from your goal; they will be around to congratulate you when you make it. If, in the end you are not successful, you can hold your head high knowing you "gave it a go".

Hi, i only got my first official handicap this year and it was 8.0 and im 21 years old. When i was 14 my dream was to make it to the pga tour and it still is now but as i get older and older its more and more unlikely it will happen, I play all the time and when i was your age i was playing to about 14-16.

The way i look at it..... If your handicap is 36 when you first start and 6 months later your off 24, it doesnt mean that 6 months later it will drop another 8 shots to a 16 handicap, and the 6 months after its 8 then the next 6 months your off scratch, it doesnt work like that, as you go lower its soo much more difficult to bettter your handicap. plus its not all about how you hit it, theres a lot of mental work like how you bounce back after a poor shot keeping focused and play every shot as it comes etc!

I dont want to sound big headed but i hit/strike the ball from tee to green like a pro easily 320 or more off the tee, 7 iron 190, PW 155 but my putting and bunker play is soo wreckless its untrue, i could probably putt better on sand or under water lol! i couldnt even think about being a pro golfer on a tour unles my short game improved dramatically!! i could easily make a 3 putt from 20ft through trying to make it and putting it 6 ft past but working hard to rectify that. I really hope you can do it and wish you all the best but it will be a long road....

i've heard david branshaw from the nationwide tour only picked up a club for the first time aged 17 but hes obviously got natural talent so i dont see why you shouldnt go for it, but like other people have said, dont just rely on that as your future, stay fully concentrated on education as it will always be something to fall back on if the golf doesnt work out! If you're playing of a bit under 20 right now, then you still have about 25 shots to knock off your handicap before you would compare to a pro. And all 25 of those shots will get harder to knock off as your handicap gets lower. If you're thinking about playing college, just play as many tourneys as you can. By your junior year most division 1 coaches are interested in players who have a scoring average of about +1 in the tourneys.

Achieving goals comes down to how hard you are willing to work for them, and the sacrifices that come with choosing that path. It's not easy, but hard work, determination and patience are the biggest factors in achieving goals.

I took up golf 4 years ago, and after my first round I wish I had not scoffed at the game for the first 31 years of my life. I play twice a week at the most, and am down to an 8 hdcp, and certain I could get down to scratch if I had more time to play. If I had played at an early age, there's no doubt in my mind I would have a career in golf, be it as a player or as a teacher. Still could be an option after I retire, lol!

My advice to you would be to join the PGA Junior Series, and start from there. If Golf is truly a career you are interested in, these 2 links below are full of information you can use to help you on your way!

Achieving goals comes down to how hard you are willing to work for them, and the sacrifices that come with choosing that path. Let's rephrase the original question.

"I'm 15 and have just started baseball. I love it and really enjoy it and I want to get better. Nothing indicates that I have any ability above and beyond what you'd expect from a fit and healthy kid, but my dream is to play Major League. Do you think it's possible?" If someone said er - possibly, but it's very unlikely, are you going to call them negative and the killer of dreams? As I stated before, let's not put the cart before the horse. Get down to scratch and then evaluate. If you then realise that "Scratch is shit" (Who said that? Can't remember) you can improve further and reevaluate. For the record, I used to teach a young fellow here in Australia when he was 15. His dream was to play in the Major League and he's achieved that goal. (Seattle Mariners) I would say that there were millions of young kids in the US with the same goals but no amount of desire or hard work made it a reality. You either have it or you don't. Now....if someone said they'd been playing for 2 years, played off plus 1 and had won tihs and that against this person and that, I'd be compelled to be less "negative". Platitudes don't cut it. Professional golf is one of the hardest gigs going. You need more than to want it really badly. On the other hand, you will certainly not make it if you DON't want it badly. Doesn't make it easier, though!

I agree with your post - but the above indicates nothing about hitting it like a pro. How accurate are you with these irons?

And.....Bubba Watson does not play cross handed. He is left handed.
