Spitting

I was in my match friday (Beat him by 3 holes) but right from the get-go, he wouldn't stop hawking all over the course. I mean the tee-box, fairways, and even the greens. It must've been one of the worst 2 hours of my life. Also he had a sailor's mouth. Even his partner couldn't stand him.

That's gotta suck! especially on the greens! Did he ever spit when he was very close to you or near by? You would think that he could atleast get out of the fairway and atleast into the rough.

Definitely a bad habit and I would've been annoyed as well.

I can understand spitting while playing football, soccer, etc. But on the golf course, c'mon. I'd be pissed if I picked up my ball and someones phlegm was all over it.

He'd get up to swing. Spit. Take a practice swing. Spit. Take another practice swing. Spit. Finally swing. And no matter whether or not it was a good or bad shot he'd start swearing. I couldn't wait until my match was over.

I don't like it when someone spits on the green, but the fairway I'm fine with as long as it's not constant as you described.

My main point for this post is about Boo Weekley today at the Ryder Cup. I could swear that I saw something white fly from his mouth just as they switched cameras to him as he was lining up a putt on the green. I thought it was pretty bush for a pro to do so on the putting surface.

I sometimes spit on the course. Sinus and allergy problems often come out while I'm out there. But for some reason spitting on the green seems like a no no to me. I'm not aware of any rule on this. But it just seems like bad mojo. I've often caught myself about to spit, realize I was on the green and waited till I got off the green.

Indeed he did.

I spit a fair amount on the course. It's not the best of habits, but I don't really see it as hurting anybody.

wow what a nasty SOB..... the only time i've ever spit is when a gnat flew on my lip and in my mouth and i spit it out *BLAH* nasty..... or i've spit before when my sinuses are acting up but its no where near where someone would go or make a huge hawking sound or anything its like i didn't do it...... its embarrassing

He probably was chewing. I have a lot of friends that I play with that chew and they spit alot while playing, but never on the green. They usually have the common sense to at least spit in the rough.

Hahaha. I can tell you are not around construction people at all. hahaha. I forget sometimes that people are offended by foul mouths and spit. Your lucky it wasnt chew that he was spitting.

Wow, I feel the need to go put on my sunday's best before I post here. If you have to spit, then spit. Sergio could have been a little more descrete about his incident.

I have sinus issues and every now again need to spit, and do so off the green or tee box. No short grass, my rule is if you can see where you just spit then its probably a bad idea. Spit in the rough.

Now let me say its saliva people, not chemical waste. Yes it can spread germs, but there again who is handling the saliva of another golfer? Relax and focus on the game, theres enough to worry about without focusing on somebodies spit.

Me too as well, I have sinus problems, but I do not even spit in the rough, I walk off way to the bushes and spit as far into the bushes as I can. Hopefully not clearing the bushes and spitting onto someone on another hole.

Yeah I saw Boo Weekley spit on the green, I think he was chewing tobacco or something. I don't mind people spitting on the fairway if they really need to but on the green? I think I would have told him to wipe it up. Not because i'm a prude but it's disrespectful. Golf is a game of etiquette, spitting is uncivilised and there is no need on the greens.

I guess I will be the first one to state that I don't care if someone spits on the green or anywhere else. I don't do it, but it's grass. It won't hurt anything. And I don't think it's disrespectful at all.

True, that would be a little gross, but the chances of that actually happening is what?? Even if I was with a 4some who spit 50 times on each green, the chances of me rolling my ball through saliva would be pretty slim. I am assuming they don't spit directly at the hole of course. It definitely nothing that would concern me.

You have a better chance of catching something from the steering wheel of the golf cart.

It's hardly the point, if someone needs to spit, which incidently is illegal in public in the uk anyway, they can do it off the green. Spitting is something that is fine in a fast paced sport that involves a lot of running as you build up lactic acid and spitting is a good way of releasing it, but in golf it is unecessary.

You wouldn't expect anyone to piss on the green, if you need to go you go in the woods or behind a tree, I don't see why spitting should be any different.
