I'm happy as heck that OJ's going to jail. Personally, I think he should have never had the opportunity to commit these crimes considering he MURDERED 2 people already, but that's our justice system. Hope he finds happiness inside his cell.

Our justice system is one of the best in the world.

Unfortunately, wealth and celebrity can taint it in the worst of ways.

I hope he rots.

You don't detect a contradiction here?

If wealth and celebrity can taint it, it only goes to prove how bad it is.

Well, when not tainted by wealth and celebrity, it seems to work pretty well. What changes do you suggest?

Not allowing it to be tainted by wealth and celebrity would be a start.

OJs celebrity affected the murder trial the most.

Wealth was second: Johnny Cochran and the rest of the all-pro trial lawyers didn't come cheap. Third (IMHO) was race. Nobody likes to talk about that one recently. What comes around goes around. I won't know if I'm happy about it until the sentence comes down (hard, I hope).

Just goes to show what an idiot he is. OJ, learn to dial...911. If someone stole your memorabilia, then call the cops. "Hi, this is OJ Simpson and someone just stole some of my merchandise." You don't go to jail over a dispute. You go to Judge Judy.

This is a guy who was living a good life: Collecting a tax free, $400,000 a year NFL pension and living in a tax free state: Florida. He's deserved what he got.

He couldn't. He wasn't supposed to have it. He hasn't paid off the Goldman wrongful death civil judgment yet. Hence, he would have to admit that, if the stuff really was his, he had been hiding assets.

So calling the cops about the memorabilia would have been akin to calling the cops and complaining that someone had stolen your weed. (Which actually happens occasionally. Drugs are bad, mmkay? )

Any money he makes not from his pension has to go to the Goldman's, right? How much could those signed helmets have gone for? The signed photos?

You think someone would have taken advantage of his luck...like Claus Von Bulow. Instead, he's more Robert Chambers.

that was a politicians explanation.

I thought you realised that I was attempting irony, in that I quoted you.

It's a bit like saying "My car is perfectly alright, but it has rust and won't start" You could start by not having witnesses who are paid and and an education system where future jurors aren't complete morons and base their "opinions" along racial lines. Then you might have a country where people don't think that the Iraq war has something to do with 9/11 or that the bible contains literal truth. Pretty big task - unachievable. But when you acknowledge that its "only" problem is related to wealth and corruption you have to acknowledge that it's a pretty big problem. No doubt that intellectual giant Sarah Palin would have a cuter analogy. God help "you people" if she and McCain get in....

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
