No! XBOX 360 Rings of death!

So my 360 has gone kaput, has the 3 red rings of death. It was one of the first to come out so I'm actually surprised it lasted this long. Warranty is long passed and any repair price (which I've looked in to), to me, isn't worth it....I would rather buy another. I am looking at the XBOX 360 ELITE. I am going to try and pick up the console only off of Ebay since I have everything else I need. Does anyone use this model, what do you think of it? It broke down just as I bought GTA IV, TW'09 and SW: TFU. My fiance says she's sorry it broke but my spidey sinces tell me she isn't such

I'm still playing PS2. Have yet to splash on a next gen.

PS2 was in my highschool days, by far my best gaming memories are with this unit, still have it an it still works though I rarely use it.

I have the Elite. really didn't need the 120GB hard drive but wanted the Black/Green of the original XBOX so it would blend easily into the entertainment environment when the XBOX was replaced. You may want to check with Microsoft with the 3 rings of death. When I bought my Elite they game me a pamphlet saying they were warrantying that problem to like 3 or 5 years or sumptin like that...I'l see if I can locate the paper.

On another note...really looking forward to Gears of War 2....bwahahahahhaha

As in, would you rather have a Playstation 3 or your X-Box 360 (elite)? I ask because I'm thinking of getting one or the other soon. I'm leaning toward PS3, simply due to familiarity with the brand... What do you think?

Yeah my warranty was to 3 years it expired about a month prior to the rings of death, it costs about 150.00 I believe to have Microsoft fix the problem when I can buy a new core console for 179.99....I'd rather have the new one with the new warranty. But thanks!

i got the rings of death, literally punched it in the face turned it off, turned it back on, and has worked fine ever since, been about 6 months since the ring of death, must have scared it =]

but i also have a ps3, so it might help that its not the only system i play that could be why it hasnt crapped since 6 months ago

speaking of ps3, cant wait for that home thing to come out

At the time honestly I did not see it as a move because the PS3 had not come out yet. So I didn't choose the 360 over the XBOX, more so I was playing the 360 in conjunction with my PS2.

Well since I already have all of the 360 games I am going to stick with it. Having said that the PS3 does intrigue me but I chose not to buy one when it came out because, in my opinion, the game selection and the online play for the 360 was better. Although I don't know much about the PS3, the blue ray does interest me, especially since a standard blue ray player cost more than a PS3. I think I may get one eventually but I won't give up on the 360, I could not stand to give up Gears of War.

I think they both have their pros and cons, and I could have easily gone with the PS3 if it was out when I chose to buy a new console. I still may yet get one one day. Good luck.

I find the elite to cost way to much just for more room and a different colour. I can't even use 20 gigs.

No problem, how I would make the decision, if I were to make it right now, would be to take a look at the game selection of both systems and see which ones I want to play. That would be the biggest factor for me.

Whatever new model you buy, just make sure you follow the "transfer" rules closely. I think it's probably a pain in the butt to re-license all of your content, but you'll want to be very careful about doing it or you could have big headaches in the future.

Mine was an earlier one and got the red rings. I guess I was still within the 3 year warranty because I sent it back and they sent me a new one no questions asked, didn't even pay shipping either way. I'm actually selling it since I never play it, I realized I didn't miss it the 2 months it was down (I was too lazy to send it in).

Honestly mine has been down 4 months and I have not missed it much but when my friends come over it is a fun tool to distract them (and me) and especially now that my best bud has been deployed I want to play GOW online with him.

I think that it's pretty weak that microsoft doesn't fix this for free. They know the 360s are gonna die soon, they just pray its out of warranty, i think thats bs.
