  1. 1. Next To Win?

    • Michelle Wie
      1
    • Davis Love III
      3

In this week's podcast we talked about whether we thought Michelle Wie would win an LPGA event before Davis Love III. Even given her limited playing schedule, I think Michelle will beat Love III to the punch, for no other reason than I simply have some sort of feeling in my gut. Erik's on the opposite side of the issue.

Plus, look at the numbers! She's the second best female player in the world! ! !

Where do you stand and why?

I chose Love. He's had injuries. Michelle, on the other hand, has not demonstrated that she can play well under pressure.

I choose Love as well, although for the obvious reason -- the sheer fact that Wie plays a light schedule means that Love will have more chances, provided he stays healthy this year.

I do think Wie has the chops to win this year, and that was definitely no choke job at the Fields Open last month. With all the pressure of playing in front of her home crowd, she fired off a solid 66 on Sunday... second best round of the day only behind winner Meena Lee. She's a quick study... I'm confident that she'll pull one out this season.

I chose DL3 because he is in the groove right now. Heck, he could win today for all we know. He is putting the ball pretty good right now, and that will take him a long way.

He struggled last season pretty badly, but he started coming on late-last season. He finished strong last weekend and is looking good this weekend.

And the MCI Heritage is coming up soon, and we all know how well DL3 plays in that tourney, as well as The Players Championship. So I honestly believe DL3 could win in the next month.

As for Michelle, I hope she goes another year or two without winning just to hear people talk about it. :)

I guess I'll have to go with the Big Wiesy here and say she'll will win before DL III.

And you know, for some reason, Davis Love just seems to rub me the wrong way. I don't know why, he just gives off that vibe.

Yeah, and she'd be the ripe old age of 18 at that time. I'm thinking you might as well get used to it... she's probably going to be around a while. (Barring a Tracy Austin-style flameout, that is.)

I said on the podcast that she

could be out of golf by the time she's 25. We shall see...

    • Day 314 - Putting some things together. Better grip/setup, fuller backswing, better finishing position. Filmed some swings, happy with the progress.
    • Day 130: did a stack session.
    • Day 206 (24 Nov 24)  - An easy session with the 54deg wedge and hard foam balls / one simple goal - distance control thru backswing length while not decelerating.  Had a playing partner comment they noticed me decelerating on a couple short wedge shots in last round.  Hit from distances from close to 40yds down to 20.
    • Musgrove Mill hole #15 was converted to a par 3 after Hurricane Helene. Today, I had 145 from the tee which is a perfect 9-iron for me. I aimed just right of the hole and pulled it a few feet. Clanked off the stick down into the hole and ricocheted out of the hole 13’ away. Drained the putt for a birdie after repairing the hole which was damaged . Not sure if it would have counted as a HIO, but I was pretty excited!
    • Day 55 - 2024-11-24 Did five levels of Operation 36 on GSPro (different courses). 🙂 Was -4 from 200 yards (32) intentionally laying up on each hole (i.e. not hitting a 5I or something). Shot… 22, 24, 26 from 25, 50, and 100 yards. I forget my 150-yard score, but obviously it was < 36. Putting was odd… (and I did it with the wedge or a 7I or whatever was in my hand).
