905r and 906f Woods

Considering I broke my driver a few weeks ago, I am in desperate need of one. I need a driver and I also plan to purchase a 3 wood, since I really need stiff woods with a swing speed in the high 90's. I find the 905r driver and 906f woods very appealing, especially at such a low price. I hit the 906 3 wood and it seemed very traditional and felt great at impact. What's everyones views on the 909r driver? Is this equipment considered too "out-dated"? Very often when I am playing against a scratch golfer I see them carrying these clubs, so would a mid-low 80's player that is constantly improving suit these clubs? Thanks a lot.

The 905r is a solid driver, it used to be one of the most played on tour, but if you dont work the ball a ton I suggest you should try some more forgiving style woods, vut hey if it suits you then its the right club.

The 905R is a very good driver, and it was used a lot on tour even last year with the 907's because for tour players the 907 head spun a little too much. The 909's have been replacing the 905R, so that shows you how solid of a stick they are, but again the 905R is a very solid driver.

As for the fairway woods, which 906F are you talking about? The 906F2 or 906F4? I have the F4, and IIRC it is the lower launching fairway wood, and it is very workable, I personally hit the 18.5* 5 wood just as far as every 3 wood that I hit, so I only carry the 5 wood.

I really don't know if the f2 or f4 would suit me better. I tend to have a mid- ranged ball flight and some higher launch couldn't hurt. I just find these woods very appealing and if I could pick them up for under $250 for both I think it would be a great deal. I need to find a 905 somewhere and try it out with different shafts and see if it's the club for me. I hit the 15.5* f4 and it seemed very hot off the face. I'll be sure to keep my eyes out for all of these.

I have the 905R and the 906F2, I really enjoy this clubs. I think that these clubs had helped me to lower my handicap. I think that you wouldn't have a problem with these clubs.

      Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?

      I think part of it is there hasn't been enough conclusive studies specific to golf regarding block studies. Maybe the full swing, you can't study it because it is too complicated and to some degree it will fall into variable or random.

      Going one step stiffer in the golf shaft, of the same make and model will have minor impact on the launch conditions. It can matter, it is a way to dial in some launch conditions if you are a few hundred RPM off or the angle isn't there. Same with moving weights around. A clubhead weights 200-220 grams. You are shifting a fraction of that to move the CG slightly. It can matter, again its more about fine tuning. As for grip size, this is more personal preference. Grip size doesn't have any impact on the swing out of personal preference.  You are going to spend hundreds of dollars for fine tuning. Which if you want, go for it. I am not sure what your level of play is, or what your goals in golf are.  In the end, the golf swing matters more than the equipment. If you want to go to that level of detail, go find a good golf club fitter. ChatGPT is going to surface scan reddit, golfwrx, and other popular websites for the answers. Basically, it is all opinionated gibberish at this point.

      Well the first advice I would give is to look at your swing. If you are swing out to in, it may be difficult to fix your misses with club adjustments. They would only be a bandaid. I use midsize grips because I have long fingers and I feel I have more control with them. I also have tinkered with shaft length and swing weight. But I know when I miss it’s because my swing was off.
