help for a hooker

Are clubs designed for high handicapers suposed to help you square the club face. If so im right handed and I hook shots to the left. Will a clib meant for better players help or make it worse

Most game improvement irons have an offset clubface which makes it easier for the slicer to square the face. The bad thing about that is if you hook the ball then you will really hook it with an offset club. If you are a decent player who makes somewhat consistant contact look into clubs made for better players because they have less offset. Be careful though because some irons (forged blades especially) can be very difficult to hit and are not forgiving at all for off center hits. The best of both worlds would be a cavity backed iron made for better players like the Ping I5 or Taylormade RAC.

The more offset in irons, the more likely they are to go left. Yes. Offset typically doesn't apply to woods, though, but a lot of woods - for example, anything without "TP" in it from TaylorMade - are draw biased.

For example, the TM r7 460 gets back to neutral if you put the weights 2/14 in the heel/toe. If you put in 8/8, it's still draw biased. If you go with the stock 14/2 it's heavily draw biased. Most amateurs slice the ball, so to sell more clubs (i.e. to "demo well") and to keep players using their clubs, companies try to work for most players. Better players typically don't need more help drawing (hooking) the ball, but better players typically know enough about the equipment they're using to know whether it's draw biased, etc. They can usually tell just by hitting 'em. Some drivers have slightly closed faces, too, which helps to hook the ball too. But in general, it's done with internal weighting because a club with a closed or open face doesn't "look" right to a good portion of people. More weight heel-side = draw biased, more weight toe-side = fade biased. Callaway's FT-3 comes in three configurations, after all, and you can see on their site that it's just a matter of moving the internal weights (IIRC).

Forged or cast won't affect hooking/slicing except that forged irons typically are for the "better players" and thus typically have less offset. But you can find cast clubs with the same or less offset as some forgings, too.

If your hooking it's your setup, a draw is ok. Buy a lesson to get your setup fixed. cheaper than buying new clubs if you don't know what you need.

ok since last post took some of your advise and worked on my set up and the results wer great. I hit every par 3 and had makeable birde puts on all. Completely smoke the driver on one hole and put a 3/4 sand wedge to six feet. Seeing how i couldnt hit the broad side of a barn with a sandwedge this is great. Every iron went stright at my target no hooks at all. Bigest thing was i wasnt transefing my weight to my left side causing me to hang back and close the face to early. I still see new clubs in my futre, but now its a new putter. Oh and i almost holed every put, atleast got them within tapin range. Best round all year

Glad we could help. the correct set up allows the body to move and transfer the weight a bad set up stops the flow and you know the results.
