I was looking at irons a couple months ago, however I wasn't sure they were the ones for me and decided not to spend the moeny on them. I am still interested in purchasing a new set of irons.

My question is which irons are the most forgiving, and most workable, and have a nice feel? My contact is usually solid, however its distance controll that kills me, I always under shoot or over shoot the target. Also are graphite shafts, or steel shafts better.?

If you're looking for some irons that are forgiving yet workable, I would look at some Wilson Ci7's. I'm not a good golfer by any means but I can work them left or right if I feel I need too. They are straight as straight can be if thats what you're going for as well.

As for distance control, I don't believe there are any irons that will necessarily help with that. If you hit the ball solid and your swing is repeatable then distance should be somewhat predictable. If you're coming from the stand point where a more forgiving club will narrow your dispersion... I can see that, but distance control is still in the swing.

I won't say anything about steel or graphite since that comes down to feel, swing speed etc. and I don't know what is comfortable to you.

Hope this post helps and take my advice for what it's worth (might not be much lol). If you are looking for a nice workable and yet forgiving set of irons, I would definitely check out the Ci7's. It doesn't hurt that you can find new sets on the bay for close to 300 bucks.

Forgiveness and workability don't generally go hand in hand. If you want a median of the two you'll need something in the sem-game improvement area, like TM r7s or the Non-forged mizunos. Like the previous poster said, consistent distance control isn't really attibuted to clubs, as their specs stay the same. Distance can be affected by where you catch the ball on the face, and a more forgiving iron will help with that.

When it comes to deciding between steel and graphite I can only say "Get Fit" and figure it out that way.

For your handicap (if you really do shoot in the 100+ range, then you might be more satisfied with a SGI iron like the Calloway fusion line or something similar. That being said, you won't know which ones are right for your game until you hit a bunch of them and see what fits you swing and eye the best. Good luck.

Thanks for the responses, I will definitly try a few sets out. Just to clarify the distance control, it is when the distance is either a little more then a full swing with one club or a light swing with another.
For example: 150 yards out, Do I take a 9I or an 8I. A regular swing with a 9I is about 145 no wind, if I force I can get it just over 155 on perfect contact, the 8I easy swing is 155 with the potential to get it to 160. I think nice and easy with the 8I, and next thing I know I over shoot it, with the easy swing.

Again depending on the pin location that will affect my decision, but usually i losses a lot of shots becuase of this.

Choke down on the eight and take your normal swing

hey check out the wilson staff fi5's...they are cheap only $300-350 and i love them. they are forgiving and workable, a very nice set of blades with classic styling. i can hit great draws and cuts with it and have awesome distance control, they are fantastic.
