Also keep in mind that we've seen cavity backs instroduced since 1965, and a lower center of gravity will launch the ball higher.

That's why two clubs from the same manufacturer can be introduced, both with different lofts, and yet be mixed. For example, the 695.MB and .CB. The CB had lofts 2° stronger but you could mix the two sets at any club because they'd launch the same. Some super-game-improvement clubs launch the ball WAY high in the air despite their "strong" lofts. Loft is about more than the static loft of the clubface. And while I think there's some truth to this "creep" business, it's usually overstated.

Companies are starting to realize this however... Nike has a set with FOUR HYBRIDS in its SUMO LINE... and Taylor Made, Titleist and Nike are putting 4-iron thru Gap Wedge standard in there game improvement iron sets and including hybrids to replace the three- and four-irons in others...

So the golf companies are finally starting to realize golfers ain't as stupid as they once thought... I'm on the opposite end though... I won't buy the set unless the manufacturer makes a 2-iron for it...

And Erik is right... my friend plays Adams a3 hybrid irons which has a 44 degree PW which actually launches much higher than my 49-degree PW which is a muscleback blade... and my 47-degree r7 TP launches like a sand wedge... so cavity backs launch much higher do to the lower c/g... If the PW was 50-51 degrees with today's models... the ball would not go anywhere...
