As a player that uses X20 tours which are cast, how would this affect me? I see that you play forged irons, but I don't.

im just saying the way they are constructed the casting process is not as precise as forging

I'd use the word different. They are constructed differently. And, the casting process has become so good that there are many golfers, including scores of professional golfers, who cannot even tell the difference between forged and cast clubs when they hit them without knowing which is which.

I can tell that you are a forged junky and believe that it is the perfect way of life, so I'll end this argument. Please get back to discussing wedges.

the thing that concerns me about the vokeys is tht they are cast and cast=inconsistancy that is a very important aspect in wedge play imo i would look for a forged wedge

Right, so why are the Vokeys the most used wedge? Even on the PGA. I don't have actual numbers, but it must be up there. They can't be that inconsistent, or they wouldn't be in PGA players bags. So, for a 2 handicap and over (who are nowhere as consistent a ball striker as a PGA tour player), I don't think this argument holds water.

What evidence is there that the construction of cast irons is less exact than forged?

Say you have the EXACT SAME club in both a cast and a forged. Same lie angle, same loft, same grooves, same mass, same bounce, same shaft, same grip - and you have a robot hitting the same ball with identical swings. Scientific research has shown that the ball behaves no differently coming off the face of a cast or forged iron.

agreed 100%. Unless the tour players are using some Vokey that is hand forgeed by Miura or something like that.

would not suprise me, considering that most of the top pros irons are forged by miura.

as far as consistency, i'm just looking at the shafts. I'm not too worried about getting all of the same brand wedge, or getting callaway wedges to match my irons.

I think I'm going to go with the Vokey SM 58 and see how i like it. I haven't really heard anyone that doesn't like them, so I think they'll be fine. Still waiting for a store around here to get the 58 in all three bounces so I can try them out.

so, I go into Edwin Watts today and they had the 58 in all three bounces. I really liked the 12 the best. Just love the grind on that wedge. Before I go check out I see they have some demo bags full of clubs. I look in there and see a brand new callaway x-forged 58.10 c-grind. It was freakin' awesome. Hit it great, and it looked like I was the first person to pick it up.

$79.99.

Thanks for all the help. I'll come back after this weekend and let everyone know how I like it on the course. Gonna try to get out and do some chipping with it before then if the rain will stop long enough.

Good luck with the new callaway.

I went through handful of different wedges this year. Luckily the Golf Galaxy near me had a slew of used left handed wedges that I was able to hit in the store a bunch and try out on the course. I found my 56 sm Vokey there and fell in love with the club. I eventually bought a sm 60 after a nice win at the casino. I went through a CG10 50* gap wedge which turned into a Callaway X-Tour 52* Gap wedge and then finally into a new 52* Vokey SM gap wedge. I finally feel comfortable with all three wedges and while it may all be in my head, I love that they all match. The weight and feel off of the face really feel the best to my game.

i am in love with my Sonartec T46 wedges. it is a forged, milled face head with "yo-yo" grooves that really put a bite on the ball. another wedge you might want to consider is the Sonartec T35. same wedge but lower bounce. and the great thing about them is that they are reasonably priced.

Anyone own a "Scratch" wedge ? I'm thinking about buying one. From reviewing their website and talking with the companies owner, they look pretty awesome. Just wondering if they are $90 better than a Vokey.

i dont own a Scratch wedge, but a lot of people swear by them saying they are the best. you can also save a bundle on them if you buy them thru their Ebay sales. you wont be able to get custom stamps on them or anything, but you can usually get them for half price when buying them off Ebay. i think they are around $200 new....
