Hello all,

Just wondering.....what do you all think of taking lessons inside or in a swing cage as oppose to outside at a normal range?

Do you think you learned as much? I'm wondering because you really cannot see the ball flight....but I do understand in the winter the options are limited in a lot of places....especially like here in the Washington, DC area.

Thanks for any advice!

Also, how important do you all rate being videotaped?

IMO, you at least have to have a vitutal sim for indoor. Hitting into a net just doesn't give enough feedback. I have a net in my garage and you can really ingrain some bad habbits if you're not careful. The place I took lessons at has an indoor heated garage facility that opens to the range. It's ideal b\c you can see your ball flight all season long.

I'm a huge believer in video taping. I found that often what I think I'm doing and what I'm actually doing are two different things. I still video tape myself often. I did it today in fact. V1 Golf Home has a pretty good free analysis software.

Personally, I do not hit balls into a net at all, unless swinging at a golf shop to check out a club. It is hard to get a good feel for a swing without seeing ball flight. There are many teachers that believe that watching a swing on video is enough to correct mistakes and make swing changes. I do not agree. My swing look horrible on video, but I hit the ball dead straight. Someone watching my swing might try to make changes. To me, ball flight is the key factor in making swing changes.

On top of that, hitting off of mats long enough will affect how you swing and ball contact.

My swing thoughts:

- Negative thinking hurts more than negative swinging.
- I let my swing balance me.
- Full extension back and through to the target. - I swing under not around my body. - My club must not twist in my swing. - Keep a soft left knee
