My recently retired Father is spending the winter with me in Houston. He is an avid golfer and wants to play golf two or three days a week while I’m at work. I know that at pretty much every course an individual can get paired up by the ranger to play a round of golf, but I was looking for something a little more organized with some regulars. I’ve heard of "drop-in" golf leagues for retirees, and was thinking that playing in those a couple days a week would be perfect. I've asked around and people have heard of them, but cannot give me the name of any courses with "drop-in" golf leagues for retirees.

Do you know any specific Houston area public golf courses that have a "drop-in" golf league for retirees?

i'm afraid i can't help you, but i'll tell you where you probably *can't* go - the houston country club. i was plotting on maybe trying to get a round there at some point in the future as it was the setting of the hogan vs snead match, and the website offers you absolutely nothing except that it's members only and absolutely no guests. you can't even view the layout of the course or the scorecard so far as i could tell. i was like, crap almighty, what is this? the area 51 of golf courses?

You would get the same response from the Denver Country Club, and I don't doubt that there are plenty of others. I know that you can't play Sanctuary unless it's by invitation to a charity fund raiser. You can't even be guest of a member because the only members are the owner and his wife.
