Are you a golf equipment nut? The type of gearhead who is on the cutting edge of the latest clubs and balls? If you are, and you like to write, I have one more question for you: Would you like to join the staff of The Sand Trap and write The Bag Drop, our weekly equipment feature?

I started The Bag Drop last summer, and I’ve enjoyed writing it and getting great feedback from fellow golfers and golf industry folks. My travel schedule is about to get much busier, however, and I won’t have time to give The Bag Drop the attention it deserves. I’ll still be a part of The Sand Trap staff, popping in with a review or a story when I have the chance. But you’ll be in charge of The Bag Drop, which is a lot of fun to write

What do you need to write The Bag Drop? How about :
1. A strong knowledge of golf equipment, including current and recent products
2. A good source of information on new golf equipment
3. The opportunity and ability to demo new products so you know what they’re all about
4. An hour or two each week to turn your ideas into a story, and the writing
skills to make it a good read.

Ideally, you work in a golf shop (with good relationships with sales reps) or are a range rat (with a good relationship with golf shop employees or a golf pro who knows his equipment) so you have a pipeline direct to the latest equipment news.

Interested? Respond to this thread or drop Erik an email at erik(at)thesandtrap.com. Include your name, qualifications and a couple ideas for Bag Drop stories. We’ll be in touch.

3-wood: Tour Edge Exotics XCG (Aldila DVS Fairway 75 stiff)
hybrid: Sonartec Md 21° (UST Proforce V2 Hybrid 85 stiff)
4-PW: Titleist 755 (Titleist TriSpec Regular)Wedges: Titleist Vokey Design 252.08 bent to 50.5° (Oil...

I would like to apply for the job (with trumpets in the backround).

No, really, I'm probably the biggest equipment nut of all. Also I'm korean. If your korean, you know koreans are stubborn and blame their equipment. Also they know almost everything about equipment, not enough on golf swing. That's why there are almost no PGA pros that are korean but on the LPGA, they all like Gucci and Prada. So my email is sunghokr@aim.com , I really am interested.

I'm not sure we're looking for a student for this spot. That you're Korean isn't an actual qualification, nor is doing one of my pet peeves: your != you're.

LOL, I've worked at Golf Galaxy but quit recently because I had to spend time for school more. Time wise I do have stuff and I still have resources to Golf Galaxy. Seriously, I know a lot about equipment, more than most "trained" people. Oh well, if you don't think I'm qualified, thats okay, but seriously Im a pretty good "canditate" for the job. So thanks, fyi: the korean thing was just a joke.

    • Interesting that it's no penalty, but then again, I can't imagine someone would purposefully put their foot out there in this situation or one like it.  And then there was the time someone purposefully deflected his own ball during a major, but that's very different too. The only time I can recall a ball I hit hitting another player or their equipment was ages ago -- over a decade and a half ago.  I had a 3' putt for an 89 and someone (a random pairing, not someone I knew) decided it was a good time for goaltending practice.  That wouldn't fall under this rule, though (and it wasn't in a tournament anyway). Thanks for continuing to share these, Dave!  I always find these interesting.
    • Day 51 (29 Apr 26) - Worked with a few of the golf team kids plus my grandson (he’s too young for the team as it’s middle-high school age and he’ll be 10 Sat).  He put on a small hitting clinic (hitting off the same tees as the rest of the boys) - one of the older kids called him a “coach”.  Worked in a few shots for myself - had the light bag: driver, 7w, 4 - 6 - 8 - Pw - Sw (DCI 962’s except the Sw a 981) and Zebra putter….got in some great tee shots, a couple of recovery and an awesome up and down for bogie: 55 yds out, hitting 4th shot due to 2nd getting tangled in limbs - see the window I need to hit for a tight spinner with the Sw - nail it to a postage letter distance from the cup for a tap in bogie….my kind of practice.
    • Day 21, April 29.  Before going to work this morning, I worked in my indoor practice room for 20 minutes.   This was entirely 6-iron shots with the usual step.  Video yesterday showed me that I'm still straightening my trail leg too much (leading to the backswing length issue I've been working to fix), so I focused on not doing that in my rehearsal swings.
    • Exactly correct.   I was absolutely certain about the penalty (none here), but the bit about where they play from can be really confusing the first time you read it.  In my big paper rule book, i used colored highlighters to make it clear.  Good thing I did, at the Cascades there's little to no cell service, so using the rules app on the phone wasnn't possible.
    • Taking a crack it, but looks pretty clear. 11.1  Ball in Motion Accidentally Hits Person or Outside Influence. a. No Penalty to Any Player If a player’s ball in motion accidentally hits any person (including the player) or outside influence: There is no penalty to any player. This is true even if the ball hits the player, the opponent or any other player or any of their caddies or equipment. Reading further down it looks like they have to play the ball as it lies. No replay from the previous spot.
