Boo Weekley's future

If anyone was watching Golf Central after the Sony, they played an interview with Boo. He expressed his humility towards his fans. It was quite impressive just how down to earth this guy truly is (Rocco, in my opinion, is a snob compared to him).

He also expressed how he truly felt about being on tour. It almost seemed as if he could take or leave golf, taking what most of us would kill for for granted. Any thoughts?

I know that if I were in his shoes I would play until my arms fell off. I like Boo alot, but from what I saw in the interview, he should really consider what his future is on tour. Don't wait to see if the checks come, decide whether or not you are right for golf (or if golf is right for him).

I recently read Feinstein's Tales from Q School. From the sound of it, I bet there are alot of guys wishing he would pack it up and leave a spot open for the guys struggling to make it onto tour.

I wish I had seen this interview. I do find it very interesting that you were impressed by his humility, yet want him to get out of the way for people with more desire. Without seeing the interview, I will say that a lot of athletes that aren't schooled in PR can and do say lots of things that can be misconstrued by the fans and the media. I believe Boo might be the type of guy that would fall into that catagory. From what I understand he is a very personable, humble and entertaining guy to follow around the links. Someone else might have different tales than what I have heard.

I'm sure that Cleveland would hate to see him go. He is second only to VJ in their stable. From what I can tell, right or wrong, he is first in their PR camp though. No one can deny VJs skills, but for some reasons addressed on other threads, he's not that popular. He's OK by me though, not that he cares....haha

I really like Boo's carefree attitude. With this live in the moment attitude, he has low risk for crash and burn (Duval). His "so what, its only golf" thinking also diminishes his chances of dominating. He obviously loves his life and probably won't change a thing.

His short game (except for putting sometimes) is brilliant. He is such a natural around the green, this will always serve him well. If he holds off a bit on the buffet and icecream, he will have a long, prosperous career. He won't win much, but will consistently be in the top 15 or so.

I doubt he practices much, so yes, his natural gifts are sure to produce envy among the struggling, nose to the grind stone, jouneyman tour player.

I saw that and liked his thoughts really. In particularly about his "take it or leave it" point of view. I didn't really take it as that though, more to the point that, it [golf] is working for now, if his game disappears or becomes not fun or some other reason to give it up, its not the worst thing in the world. Its more of an opportunity for an up-and-comer to prove themselves with his spot. Really a good point of view I thought.

He talked about the pressures of being a "golf pro" and his obligation to his fans. He described how he receives mail from fans asking him to sign something they have mailed him. He said if someone is going to spend their hard-earned money to by a Ryder Cup flag, that he felt "obligated" to sign it and mail it back.

I'm sure that there are many pros that are nice guys, but I think we can all agree that Boo truly is just a normal guy with alot of new-found "pressures" and "obligations".

He also said that at the Ryder Cup he entered into a zone in his golfing career that he didn't know existed. He didn't know, he said, that he had that kind of game. I think Boo is finding out a lot of things about himself and golf that he obviously never really thought about before.

He did say that if he could average two million a year for the next seven years that he would walk away from the game. I think he'll average that easily, imho.
