  1. 1. Replace what?

    • Get 20 degree hybrid to replace 5 wood
      9
    • Get hybrid of same loft to replace current hybrid.

I want a new hybrid to either replace my current hybrid or one of my woods. Do you think i should first replace the currenty hybrid that i hit fairly well or replace the 5 wood in which probably every 1 out of 5 shots is good off of the fairway. The 5 wood is 19 degrees and the hybrid is 23 degrees. If replacing the 5 wood would you look at an 20 degree model. I must clarify that i use this 5 wood very regularly at a par 3 on the course i play most often. I am a little long with the 5 wood on this hole so i believe with the loss in shaft length and loss in 1 degree of loft I will be in very good shape distance wise. Naturally i will replace the 23 degree model with another 23 degree model.

Geez, I feel like this question has been asked like twice in the past week.

You should not get a club for only one shot on one hole. If your 5 wood is too long on a par 3, choke down. Don't buy a new club to fix it. I think hybrids are more versitile than woods and are (for some people) easier to hit than woods. However, if you hit a 5 wood well 20% of the time, that's probably a swing flaw, NOT an equipment flaw.

If you hit your current 23* hybrid well, then I see no reason to replace it unless you find a better club. Why fix what works?

Though it is not an option, I vote that you learn to hit the clubs that you have now. If I have to choose, I would say the 23* hybrid. It will probably see more action in the long run.

+1 for sticking it out with the 5w if the change is for one hole. I don't know for sure but I'd bet if you took the $$ you'd spend on the new club and went to a pro and said I want to work on fairway woods you'd see better scores than with the new club...

If you hit your hybrid well, Id suggest replacing your 5-wood with a 2-hybrid.

As the o.p said i would'nt change for one hole, you could choke down on it and replacing your 23* with another 23* is going to make no difference,If you want a change i would change the 5 would for a 19*(2) hybrid.

More of the same opinion here....I wouldn't replace a club that I hit really well.

Given the 2 choices that you've allowed I selected the 5W replacement.

I agree that the best option wasn't posted: Keep the 5W and get a lesson. Easier said than done, I'm sure. I fall victim to these same decisions sometimes, too. A lesson or two could go a long way, but I'm scared to do it.
