So im looking at buying some scratch wedges. I am pretty set with getting a 53* SND wedge with 14* of bounce, as i seem to take large, "steak like" divots. I am wondering what i should do about the 58*. I want something with about 8* of bounce, which scratch offers, called the TNC and EGG. The only problem is that it looks like these wedges dont really have grinds that will allow me to open up the blade without increasing bounce. Which is a big problem for me because i like to play alot of flop shots. I also noticed that they have a 58* SFU wedge (14* of bounce), and it says that you can open the face without increasing bounce. My question to you is what would be easier for me to hit flops with, the TNC and EGG or the SFU. I know alot of you are going to say get fitted by this guy called Ari, but i am goin to get this off ebay, and dont want to waste his time. Is it possible to open up the TNC and EGG without increasing alot of bounce?

I am afraid that if i go with the SFU it will be hard to hit flops with 14* of bounce.
Thanks in advance.

Get the EGG. I spent a good deal of time on the phone with Ari about this very subject. I'm very much a "d/d" but I like to play a variety of shots with my wedges, especially my 60'. I'll lay the blade all the way open quite a bit and wanted a grind that would allow this w/out increasing the difficultly by creating a lot of bounce. I was very concerned about this when I ordered my wedges and I wasn't afraid to let Ari know.

After an extensive discussion about this, it was determined that the EGG was the way to go.

On another note, before dropping the cash on Ebay, you might want to know that the JLM's have dropped to $149 directly from Scratch (I'm not sure what Ebay prices look like at the moment, likly inline w/Scratch though). Another thing worth considering is the 2009 line of wedges, called the 1018 IIRC. They will also be offering an even less expensive cast line of wedges.

I'd also like to add that by calling Ari you would not be "wasting his time." Quite the contrary actually. You are bound to learn a lot in your dicussion with him and at the same time, he'll learn about you, a Scratch customer. The more of us he talks to, the more of our concerns/ideas that he hears and the better product they produce. The JLM series (and ultimately the 1018's) are a direct result of Ari's discussions with customers. Ari is a first rate guy and will help you out. Ari is also pretty responsive over email.

Anyway, hope that helps you out!

I would definately spend the extra coin for a custom fitted wedge. Ari is a good guy and very helpful. As the president of the company he goes over and beyond the call of duty for his customers. You would definately not be wasting his time.

I called them last week and they were very helpful, even though they were in the middle of a move to their new offices in TN.

I think they are down at the PGA show this week, so it might be hard to get in touch with Ari, but I would call him when you get a chance.

Thanks guys, i think i might shoot ari an email. The reason why i am buying off ebay is because i wont be charged to add a project x 6.0 shaft, while the scratch website charges an extra 35.00.

Are your irons coming with PX's too? I think you should try to match your wedge shafts with your iron shafts if possible.

So you would say that it is easy to hit a flop shot with your egg, when you open the face?

    • Day 23: weird day, and only had a little bit of time. Just did mirror work again, working on where the elbow is in the downswing
    • I flipped over to this tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. Anyone else watch? I picked it up during the golf relay event, but seeing these pros out having fun in alternative events was refreshing and entertaining. I’m sure it will be on in reruns in the next week or so, so I won’t spoil the outcome. Im curious what others thought of it. I’m recording it’s later airing to see the beginning.
    • Day 443 - 2025-12-17 Made a few swings in testing some things out at another academy. Might pop up on someone else's podcast in a few weeks.
    • Day 37 (17 Dec 25) - nine hole round with my good friend.  We got paired up with a couple of the men’s group regulars as part of their shootout.  Started off with a wonderful quad bogie and then a dbl on three to be six over thru three holes.  Game went 180° over the next five as I shot one under (including a chip in birdie on hole six and four up and down 1 putt pars) for a net finish of five over. What could have been a really tough nine became a solid finish due to staying in the moment and not checking out.  Great day in course management and keeping perspective .
    • Day 127 12-17 Backswing and flow practice. Took advantage of the 60 degeee weather(it was 20 degrees Sunday)
