I am just really getting started in golf,, been at it less than a year total. I had started taking copius notes and quickly determined where I was taking too many shots... 100 down to the pin. I fixed parts of that with some wedge play and dialing in my swing, now I am more confident down to 30 yards or so.

I am a big fan of indicators and I purchased inteligolf to help track then.. but even it is not the best tool, What do you all like. I take more strokes than Inteligolf can handle, so the results don't point me in a specfic direction as of yet.

One more question, when I am counting putts and chips,, if I am using a short iron to chip /putt onto the green-from the fringe, do I count that as a putt, or a chip?

And if you use your putter from off the green in the fringe, then is that a putt?

Thanks so much! gus

Putts occur from the putting surface, period. If you use your putter to get out from behind a tree, that isn't a putt. Neither is using your putter from the fringe.

I use score saver. www.scoresaver.co.uk , it does the usual statistic stuff and shows you easily what you need to improve on,you then set targets for each key stats.
If you tend to get nervous it is agreat way of relieving pressure when you are n a comp becus instead of worrying about the score you just think, hit this fairway and i can get closer to my target of 9 fway hit (or wotever). Annika Sorrentsam is meticulous about statistics she takes a laptop to each event and enters statistics so she can see exactly what she needs to work on, statistics are objective they dont pander to your ego where as you can feel like you are driving well or putting poorly when in fact you are not.
