I have just added a 3 and 4 hybrid to my golf repertoire and am having a hard time adjusting.

I am a die-hard long iron guy. I built these hybrids just to see how they hit (I have never hit hybrids before). And now after getting back from the range I am ready to put my irons back in my bag. I have a feeling when swinging these clubs that I am swinging a wood and I know I am not swinging well. I was hooking the ball, topping it, slicing it, digging. I threw them back in my bag and grabbed my 3 iron and was hitting balls 200 yards with my usual fade. I just dont get it.

Has anyone else had a hard time with this conversion?

Thanks

Tim

seems like there are several hybrids on the market that are hook machines. my Callaway FT Hybrids are too. so are the Bridgestone J33 hybrids I used to game. i just demo'd a #3 and a #4 Nickent 5DX hybrid a couple of days ago and i am now SOLD on them. they are the longest, straightest, most forgiving hybrids i have EVER hit. it almost felt like i was cheating they were so long and straight. if you can demo the 5DX's, do it. you wont look back... Im picking my new Nickent 5DX up tomorrow at Edwin Watts and I cant wait to throw my Callaways in the trash

By throw them in the trash, do you mean, mail them to me if I pay shipping and handling + a little extra. Send me a pm if this is the case.

Oh, and if you have an extra 54-56* SW laying around, I'll be happy to pay shipping and handling + "leg work fee" Leg work fee is traditionally 5% whole sale value

I always liked long irons, but the extra forgiveness and (more importantly) more useful trajectory from hybrids was obvious. I tried a couple of hybrids and never really liked them until I tried the Wishon 321Li hybrids.

I had no particular expectations here - they were close-out specials (I build my own clubs and buy directly from Wishon). I liked them on the second swing. The difference between these clubs and the others was the set up. The other hybrids that I had tried set up like fairway woods with 'on-set' (face ahead of the shaft). The 321Li's set up like loww offset irons with the leading edge of the face set at about the same place.

I was truly surprised at how much I liked these hybrids - I liked them enough that I added a 5i hybrid to my bag.

ps. While Wishon no longer sells the 321Li, the new 331's set up pretty much just like the old 321's.

In The Bag:
- Wishon 949MC 10.5* Driver
- Wishon 525 F/D 3W
- Wishon 515 949MC 5W
- Wishon 60* Cx Micro LW- Wishon 550M SW (55*)- Wishon 550M GW bent to 50* - Wishon 550C 6i - 9i (9i bent to 45*)- Wishon 321Li 3i/4i/5i hybrids- Odyssey Two Ball Putter

Now let me start by saying I am not an instructor or PGA Pro or anything like that at all. In fact I'm lucky to break 83 but I was told by an instructor one time that playing a hybrid is not like playing a long iron or fairway metal. He told me that to properly hit with a hybrid was to practice swing, without a divot, just brush or sweep the ground. When you figure out where the sweep mark is, that is where your ball should be, not like hitting down and thru like an iron but sweep it off the ground with the grass all ruffled. He told me this after listening to me cuss and carry-on while trying to hit my first hybrid, hooking left, popping up, topping the ball because I was swinging it like an iron. JMHO

Ive had a hard time with hybrids too and am seriously considering taking my 3H and 4H out and replacing them with the 3 and 4 irons that came with my iron set.

EXACTLY!!! Thats what I was doing!!!! I was hooking, topping, slicing....everything but hitting it. I felt like I was swinging a wood trying to hit it like a iron.

Did you get your hybrid swing worked out?

For the most part I do swing my hybrid faily well now. I spent time at the range swing it across the grass to just ruffel the grass. When I saw where it was doing that , I put a ball in the middle of that 3-4 inch ruffel and there it was, nice and straight, good distance , no hook, or topping the ball. I have learned to punch the ball with a hybrid from behind the tree's like with a 3 iron. I really like them, but with the r7 Taylormades it's hard to get a good fade with them because of the draw set up on the head. After workng with them , now it's like why did I wait so long. One other thing, out of a fairway bunker like on a par 5 there is nothing better than a hybrid, it just slides along the sand on the swing and the ball fly's just like out of the rough.
