I am looking into a portable solution to help me when I am on the road. I am in golf sales and I basically get in my car and go driving from course to pro shop to course to pro shop all day long. I have a GPS and I have my database to keep track of it all... what I want to be able to do is buy a Pocket PC and install Microsoft Streets and Trips on it so I can quickly reference all the surrounding accounts at any given location in the state... plug the address in and I am on my way. So... does anyone know if Windows based Pocket PC's are compatible with standard windows software? How do you install it? Anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks

Why not get a smart phone that has all of what you ask? iPhone, Blackberry, hell, really there are too many to list. I have on old Cingular 8125 that does just fine. The new ones have built-in GPS/Web/Email.......
I've spent most of my life golfing - the rest I've just wasted.

There is not a smart phone capable of what I need... nor have I found software or an app for a phone that is capable of storing 1600 mapped locations.

Then a pocket PC isn't gonna help you.

I've got a Compaq iPaq from about 2002. I it is running Windows mobile 5. I have MS Streets 2005 running on it.You can export maps [pocket streets] and POI into it from your PC. I haven't used in a while, too many gadgets to be carrying. I don't know what the max limit of POI is off hand. It maybe liited to the size of the SD card in the PDA Of course you can store contacts with phone and address info.

What about a Garmin Nuvi ? That would probably have all the GC in there.

There is a Compact Flash GPS that works on the PDA's with Pockets Streets. Look for the Dell Axiom [ no longer in production, check Ebay] as it had built in CF and SD slots.
My Compaq required an expansion adapter to get the CF cards to work, gets to be too bulky, but still portable.

A friend of mine demo'd a working Pockets Streets w/ GPS to me a while back, it was cool at the time.

iPhone does most of this, but has it's limitations.

PDA seem to be coming extict these days. Most people seem to be opting for a smart phone

According to Laptop World, pocket streets is not available with current MS Streets.
Might have to look for an older version to get it. I know it is on 2004 and 2005 vers.

Thanks for the suggestion... I have run through several of the scenarios that you layed out but I am not sure if any of them will work the way I want them to. I am starting to think that I am going to have to buy a small tablet and just sync the two hard drives wih a passport. Thanks again.
