I have a Aldila VS Proto shaft on my driver right now, but my dad just said that he was gunna give me his FT-IQ Tour that he doesn't like(he picked it up on Ebay for like 250 brand new, he buys stuff then if he doesnt like it trades it, but this time he decided to give it to me), but that has a regular flex shaft. I love the club but the shaft is too whippy. Is is good for the shaft, or the club, to trade the shafts in the FT-IQ and the 907?

As a professional golfer, I have come across this problem many times. The one solution that has always worked for me is perhaps also the easiest. SWING SLOWER!!!! People your age should not swap out shafts etc. You should work on refining your skills and your swing and not worry about your swing.

Not braggin or anything but, my swing speed even slow is about 105, usually at normal tempo its around 115. So i need at least a stiff in my driver. Its about accuracy more than distance, if i wanted distance id stick with the reg flex.

First- dont listen to that guy at all. That is pretty much all wrong.

As for shafts.. What kind of ball flight do you have? or what are you looking to achieve? My SS is very similar to yours, and we both are about the same age i think, so i can definetly help here.

i hope your dad didnt get one of the counterfeit ft-iq's from one of the Chinese sellers. they are popping up like crazy now. the fakes have been selling for $160-$250ish too. id check the serial number on the club just to be sure.

you're a professional golfer and you have a 6 handicap? i guess you dont make many cuts, huh?

From what I've heard there is no guarantee that pulling the shaft won't damage it, at which point you have no driver at all. Or you may find that you liked the 907 better, and repeat pullings will compromise the shaft at some point. I would consider a new shaft for the FTiQ, don't know if you want to shell the $$ for a Proto (those things are crazy expensive).

I have a very high ball flight, so i want a shaft that will keep it low and penetating. One problem that i have if im using a too whippy or a highlaunching shaft is that my ball will either land and take a hop forward and thats it or, my personal favorite, bounce 2-3 yds backward of where it landed.

BTW, Jesper is a friend of mine who is new to TST, he was only prodding me, pls dont kill him.

If you know what your doing, or you go to a store, A shaft can and will be pulled without damage. If you are inexperienced, no damage will be done to the club. The problem you will encounter is the 907 is a bore thru, meaning that the sahft will need cut in order to fit in said FtiQ. you also need to double check that they are the same tip size.

Also, the VS Proto is really not all that expensivge compared to some other models.. if you are unhappy with the VS, for me, the Stiff went far to high (and i am a pretty low ball flight) and it went left if i went after one. So you may want to look into a diffferent shaft all together. With your SS you could definetly look into an X flex..Especially if your looking more for accuracy (theres no proof behind that, but i truely believe a stiffer shaft "feels" more accurate) If you can provide a wee bit more info as to what you want from your new FT i can definetly give you soem options.. Brian.

Haha. Thanks TCC. I appreciate it. And one of my goals this year is to start making more cuts.

And I can definately attest to your high ball flight. I've personally seen your ball bounce back before when you are using the wrong shaft. Your proto seemed to keep the ball down though.

If you want to keep it down a bit..

Whiteboard 63X
F6M2 Strong
PL Red (baaaad shaft.. but its kinda low launch i suppose)
V2- Good shaft, fairly cheap compared to the first two
The new Axiv series is pretty nice as well

Personally i play the WB and F7M2, and love them both dearly..

Well I like the VS Proto, it had the ball flight and feel that i wanted, i just dont feel like spending money on a new shaft. I was just hopin i could swap, i think its a bassara, thats on the FT-IQ and put it on the 907 that has the proto and put that on the FT-IQ. But if thats not an option id want a shaft that would allow me to control the ball, not balloon on me, and be able to hit low through wind if need be, which i couldnt when i had used other shafts. The proto had worked good for me though. I was just hopin that i wouldnt have to shell out another 180 bucks for a new one and throw away a perfectly good bassarra.

You could certainly tip the Bassara (dont they come stock with Fubuki's?) Thus making it play stiffer.. could do the same with the Proto and it may bring the ball flight down a wee bit..

Have you ever done any pulling before? if not, you may want to talk to a pro or go to golfsmith..

Pulling shafts in the Cally drivers with composite tops can and I say can ruin the head. Most places prefer to send them back to Callaway, cut and drill to remove the old or if they do it with heat won't guarantee their work. Heat can damage the composite crowns.

While you have to learn sometime, it would be easier to have someone to it for you, seeing as you dont have any of the needed material. When you go in, ask if they can tip the Proto At i would think a half inch or inch.. That will bring the ball flight down and prevent balooning, so it will play like an X, with out actually being an X.

    • Day 33 (13 Dec 25) - Worked on weight shift and resetting the left heel during downswing (after listening to a discussion on Golf School this morning on PGA Tour Radio).  It centered on how Jack Nicklaus lifted his lead heel and how long driver champs do as well.  Taking cues from that discussion, worked an exaggerated feel of the left heel working doing some swing drill in the backyard using the 7i.  Wrapped up the session by hitting a few low bump and run shots in the backyard - keeping the process slow and exaggerated.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
