Because I have a big slce with my driverm, I used to tee off with my 2i and get 220. I tried a 3w to get a little bit more distance, which I got, however the ball flight was a high arch. The landing was soft with out much roll. Great if I am teeing off on a short Par 4, long Par 3.

Since it is raining I have not been to the range much. Instead, what I do is swing a club inside. I don’t do a full swing or speed. What I am trying to do is “groove my path”. I am a bigger guy and one thing I have noticed is when I align my feet parrallel to the target I always get an outside-in swing path. No matter how slow I go to try to correct it. When my upper body comes around, it just pushes my arms out forcing me to pull them back in.

What I have done is started expeirementing with my foot placement. I discovered that if my left foot (I am right handed) is 2 or so inches forward (closed to the target line), my swing plane stays consistant AND my body rotation is a lot better on follow through. I can not wait to go to the driving range to test it out.

My question is if anyone else has the same problem? Have they tried the different alignment? What was the result? Any thoughts on the theory?

If you look through history there are any number of players who aligned a touch right and swung "outside in" from Bobby Locke and Bobby Jones to Sam Snead, Byron Nelson and Ben Hogan (Nelson and Hogan only did it with Woods and Long irons as far as I can tell), it used to be the way that the game was taught! Equally many players have aligned the other way successfully, e.g. Trevino, Azinger and Andres Romero. The only things you have to do is swing the club down the target line with the club face square at impact and if you need to adjust your set up to do it, go for it. I've played well with both extreme open and closed stances over the years and will do again if required, good luck!

    • I had a few tweeks in the bag. I took out my Mizuno pro FliHi 3 iron replaced it with a Titleist GT2 7 Wood. what a change that is, so easy to hit, it goes so high without it ballooning on me. I couldn't get rid of my callaway woods ( Rogue ST Max LS ) but changed the shafts to Diamana BB 63 stiff for the driver and 73 stiff for the 3 wood. Than i got myself a new putter Odyssey S2S jailbird yes i joined the centershaft family
    • First off all i think you should use the same ball all the time. We all strive for consistency on the course, the only factor you can be sure it will be always the same is your ball if you always use the same. So i think we should always use the same. I recently switched from Titleist Pro V1x to Srixon Z-Star Diamond because it i get a bit softer feel around the greens and same results on driver and irons
