Guys,

I am looking to upgrade my chinese stand bag.

Basically thinking about a 4 lb bag - Titleist x86 or similar
vs
Ogio Grom / Edge near 6 lbs.

So my question for those who have the answer is:

Are those 2 extra pounds really a killer? Would I notice them walking 18, 27, 36?

My doubt comes from the fact that I live in Florida, where a lot of courses don't allow walking, so I want something that works reasonably well in the cart, ie. Grom or Edge.

But I like to walk as much as I can, because I enjoy the game more, so any help I would appreciate it.

TIA

If you are in reasonably good shape, the 2# difference is minimal for 18, probably more noticable for 36. I think people relate carrying a golf bag for 4+ miles to hiking with a 50# pack all day, and the two really are very far apart.

The less weight the better for your shoulders / swing, but a # or 2 just makes little difference to me. Maybe you should change out steel iron shafts to graphite to save a pound or two?

Putter: Odyssey Dual Force 2 Rossie or Tommy Armour EFT Series Model 6

I am in good shape so I would assume it would be no problem for 18. 36 might be a different story, but even walking 36 is tough.

Anyone here used the x86 or the GROM?

The Titleist wins in weight and price - about $50 less
Edge wins in features and cart use.

mmmmm, will have to go to the Edwin Watts to check them out I guess.

My bag weighs 6lbs and I can't say that I've ever had any problems carrying it for 18+ holes of golf. I don't recommend my bag for use on a cart. The bag tends to draw in if you try to secure it too snugly on the cart and that can make it hard to get some of your clubs out.

I am currently using the titleist "lightweight" stand bag, which is equivalent to the x86. I love the bag, and after 18, I have no back pain, nor am I tired from carrying the bag. I would personally go with the x86 because I know that titleist's quality is top of the notch.

I am not sure that I can actually provide an example when I have tried a different weight of bag for a certain number of holes. However I can say that I know when I periodically clean out all the junk that has accumulated in my bag over a number of rounds the bag is noticeably lighter. My suggestion is that you should decide whether form and function outweigh (no pun intended) the choice of having a lighter bag for when you are walking. Most of the time the lighter bags do not have the same number of pockets and such as the heavier bag.

IMO, go with the lighter bag if you like walking...your back and shoulders will thank you. I am sure your golf game will as well.

I have walked 54 holes in one day with the Grom.

I think the swinging of the club was as much or more effort than carrying the bag. I don't think 2lbs. less would have made any signifigant difference.

For reference I am 32, 6' and 185lbs and in moderate shape.

I have a Grom, and find that it is quite comfortable walking. I simulated losing a couple pounds by taking out a couple clubs, and although noticable, I don't think it would make any difference walking. As a cart bag, I think it works great as well, so that's a bonus. I'm 27, 5'10" 165 and moderately in shape.

I can certainly feel the difference between my Aerolite and other heavier pounds, to me, 2 lbs is a big difference. However, the comfort of the straps also contributes to how heavy the bag feels when walking. If a bag has good straps, and is lightweight, it can't be beaten.

My Titleist x81 (I think) Sunday bag is 3 lbs., my Sun Mountain is about 5 pounds, and there is a very noticeable difference in the two extra pounds and the bulk of the larger bag. I got to where I was tossing the heavier bag on a pull cart, and don't really like pull carts, and got the nifty Titleist bag for dedicated walking, made all the difference.

The other thing, with the smaller bag, is I tend to not load it up as much, which also makes a difference. Still, all things equal with equipment, a 3 pound bag is a delight to carry. When I have to ride with it, it's fine on the back of a cart, also. Irons look a little crowded in it, but so what.

I think Titleist's new equivalent is their ultra lightweight, which comes in a wide array of colors, mine was only available in black (fine by me) or red, and was hard to come by last year.

Thanks for the response guys.

I see opinions on both sides so I haven't actually made my mind yet.

The Grom calls me for the cart function and several features.

But the Titleist sure is better for walking, which I plan to do a lot.

This morning I was setting on the Grom, now thinking it better I guess it is better to be comfortable walking, rather than the bag working on a cart.

I think I will have to carry them both in the store and make my decision there.

Thanks again.

I recently bought the Edge, wanted the rain cover or the Grom would have been my choice, it is heavier than my last carry bag but worth it. Carries nicely, stands better due to extra stiffness of construction, and works great on a cart when my wife goes with. Titleist carry bag was considered but I wanted some of the features only Ogio offers. I'm 53 and out of shape if I can carry the extra two pounds for 18 andbody should be able to.

    • More actual thoughts on the articles: Oh boy. I taught 5SK, and before that, I was S&T certified. Those experiences, for many good instructors, are additive. They're not "all" that they are. If I were to go through Scott Cowx's certification, or Dr. Kwon's, or James Ridyard's, or whomever's… I wouldn't be a "method" teacher any more than I am now. I'd be adding tools to the toolbox. He says there are "system" teachers, "non-system" teachers, and method teachers. Which one am I? A "non-system teacher"? So, I don't have any systems or structure? Or am I a "system" teacher with a bunch of branches and if/then/else statements? I don't know. The physics thing as it relates to S&T… yeah, that's already been discussed. Huh? Brendan, sorry, that part is bogus AF. Of course the arms go "around" somewhat. It's back, up, and in. Down, out, and forward. Plus, again, "energy can either be created or destroyed" isn't even right, as many of you have said. It's "neither" and it can be transformed, too. Plus, as others noted, that's typically a closed system: in our bodies we transform sugars and other things to create movement, energy. I'm going to move off this before I get totally annoyed… "These are the pontifications of a method" — no, the specific example he cited is the way everyone who has ever played good golf moves their hands - back, up, and in. The clubhead moves that way, too. I've seen this happen. This part might be the most accurate part of the article (it's no longer clear whether he's talking about this fellow or just talking in general here.) "Now here’s the sinister thing: The overwhelming information is by design." — If the instructor is as incompetent as he says, he's likely not doing any of this "by design." He doesn't sound bright enough to do so. WTF does that have to do with anything? Probably happens to some extent sometimes, but is that the instructor's fault? Or the student for not recognizing it? Also, again, this instructor doesn't seem to be bright (not that this article even really talks about the instructor anymore), so… I doubt he's doing all of this intentionally. People are found out eventually. I'm at a point where I get a lot of referrals from people who have noticed their friends playing better golf, and ask. Or people want to brag about their improvements, and that sells their friends. "As a result, these players couldn’t play golf." — Huh? I think he just observed when he was there. Not that he went out of his way to watch. 😄
    • I am dying..🤣 Can one of yall come and pick me up from the floor?
    • If you can’t, attack it. That’s the new age ideology.
    • Is it possible that he writer is full of shit himself? "After months of listening and watching...". Yeah right, cuz that's so normal for writers do that just to get a single article out of the massive endeavor. I mean unless you are angling for a Rant-Pulitzer (Yup, it is a thing.. like, totally).
