I'm looking for a bit of advice on picking up a fairway wood to complete a full set. I'm on a budget so I'm trying to avoid spending too much.

So far looking at:
Mizuno F-60 (on sale for $138CAD at golftown)
Callaway X Fairway ($98CAD on sale)
Cobra Speed LD ($115)

I really like and can hit the Mizuno Hybrid well so if the fairway is anything like it I'd be happy to go for it. I'm also undecided between a 3 wood or 5 wood to fit the gap between my driver/hybrid.

Thanks for any help guys.

Since you hit your hybrid well, you might want to just consider another stronger lofted hybrid. Say something in the 18* range. A couple of extra yards distance is a small price to pay for confidence and consistency.

I was wondering about that too. I could get another CLK in 17* or 20*. I wonder abotu off the tee though if I'd be better with a 3 or 5 wood as a driver replacement for rought driver days.

You shouldn't have any more problem hitting a hybrid off the tee than you do any other club. Just don't try to tee it high like you do the driver. If you haven't already, go ahead and start hitting your 23* off a tee and you'll see what I mean......same swing as off the deck. I'd be very surprised if you don't hit it better and more consistently than your long irons off the tee.

How about a 4 wood? For years I carried only a driver and a 4-wood.

I just got an Exotics XCG 16.5* 4-wood off ebay for $122 ($US) that was in 9/10 condition. It didn't even look like anyone had hit it.

I have had good results from Callaway preowned at good prices.
They also carry other brands.
Simple easy to use web site. If you are on budget and don't have to have something brand new, I find it's a good option for me. I can get decent equipment and a good price.

For me, I like having a 3 wood about 15-16* of loft. In case my driver goes on holiday,
I have a backup, good for 2nd shot on par 5's, ect

I've got a 20 and a 23* hybrid. I don't think there is enough difference in my distance to carry both.

Didn't see the F-60 available, but there was a steel shaft F-50, if you're into steel shaft

why dont you buy on Ebay? you can get much better deals than what you posted in your initial post for those clubs. if you are one of those who are worried about getting ripped off, just buy from one of the big sellers like proshopwarehouse on ebay. or PM me and i'll tell you who you should and shouldnt buy from (i have over 2500 transactions, so i pretty much know who you can trust)...
just as an example, here are some F60's that sold for roughly HALF of what you posted

I have been trolling ebay a bit. Problem i run into is once you add in shipping + tax at the border + the exchange rate, it adds up to near the full pricey quickly.

MacGregor MT fairway woods, clearing out at $39.95

I'm down to a 10 handicap. At this rate, I'll get to scratch at 90 years old!

I have the Callaway X Hot and I think it's a beast. Love it. I just got the Mizuno MX-700 hybrid and it's the best hybrid I've hit. I would consider the MX700 fairway or a lower lofted hybrid. They're very new so getting a deal is probably not going to happen. But if you make the investment I'm pretty sure you won't be sorry.

I would try to find a Sonartec GS Tour. More than likely it will be used but, if it's in good condition then it will be a steal. Mine is like a rocket.

I agree with you... the GS Tour is a damn good club, but it might be a little too much club for a 36 handicap. He would probably be better off with something a little more forgiving.

I 2nd that a hybrid is just as easy (probably easier) to hit off a tee as a 3-wood or 5-wood... used my 2H a ton until I found this 3-wood, and I'll still use the 2H if distance is proper. Also, I agree with the post about Callaway pre-owned being a great source for good clubs at reasonable prices... I just bought my driver for $150, listed as very good, but looked like it had never been hit. Nothing like buying a club that was $500 a year ago for $150. 3Balls is great, I got a few clubs for my wife from them... rock bottom is good as well. Ebay is good as long as you are carefull, but as you said shipping, exchange rates, and tax could make it less appealing.

I used to have a Mizuno F-60 4-wood and honestly, I find that I hit my F-50 3-wood better than I hit the F-60.
Ive talked to quite a few people who said they liked the F-50 better than the F-60 and I would have to agree with them.
Getting a 17* hybrid would be another option. Ive got a Mizuno CLK Fli-Hi 17* and I really like it. Its such an easy club to hit. I used to have a set of Mizuno MP Fli-Hi hybrids and didnt like them all that much, but I love my CLK.

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
