I know its early in the season, but I had this problem at the end of last year too and I'm a little worried that its going to stick around and affect my game. Out of the blue towards last season I started making contact consistently closer to the heel.

I couldn't drastically try to change my swing either because it was October, I was playing in important tournaments and I figured I could work it out. Well I've played 4 times so far this year and I can't seem to shake it. Any tips would help.

Right shoulder up and around maybe?

Try a lateral move with the hips to start downswing, no disturbance of club angle, quiet hands.

Also, maybe too inside on the takeaway?

Just some random thoughts.

I'm down to a 10 handicap. At this rate, I'll get to scratch at 90 years old!

Yeah one of my friends told me I was too inside on my downswing

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
