So, Im on the cusp of ordering a new Burner driver, but Im a bit concerned about the length of the shaft in stock form, 46.25". Seeing that Im only 5'7", do yall think it would be advisable for me to get it cut down some? Also, if you custom order it via TGW or Golfsmith, some place like that, do they not charge extra for doing a custom length?

I know itd be best to be fitted and whatnot, but pickings are pretty slim locally, so Im trying to get the best I can w/o having to take a trip somewhere to get fitted.

Thanks for the help.

Your height is going to affect the lie angle more than the length probably. Get to your local shop to see the exact lie angle you need. Also, it probably would be a good idea to shorten the shaft to 45" to improve consistency, 46.25 is too long really. It will cost a little bit extra most places but it's worth it.

46.25" seems very long for any driver. I play a 45" and I'm 6'4". I think cutting a shaft down increases control and your likelihood of hitting the sweetspot. Basically, I think you'd get better results (accuracy and possibly distance) with a shorter shaft. It's a trend that even tour players are doing...cutting shafts to about 44". Since you are not absurdly tall, try the 44".

TGW or Golfsmith do not charge for length fittings from what I have seen. They have a custom length section and you can pick just about whatever you want (+/- xx inches). Try one of their online fittings; it may make a recommendation, but don't take it as the end all. Try a shorter driver and a longer driver to see what's more comfrotable. You said there isn't much locally, so try the Burner and any 45" driver as a comparison.

Thanks for the info guys.

My thought process really stems from the fact my current driver is a "standard" 45" length shaft and I do struggle w/ consistency w/ it, and have always felt it was a tad too long. I figured the 46.25" would just be crazy. Im thinking of having say 1.5" or so taken off to get it in the 44.75"ish range since the 45" still seems too long.

Definitely makes sense to take the burner down at least 1.25" if not more. If you want to maintain swingweight you'll have to add weight to the head somehow. My Ping G10 standard length is 45.75" but I ordered it at 44" from TGW. Used lead tape to adjust swingweight.

Your height is going to affect the lie angle more than the length probably. Get to your local shop to see the exact lie angle you need. . .

It was my impression that lie angle was not adjustable on your typical driver. And since you are teeing the ball it's not as important -- sole does not have to be level w/ the ground at impact.

I am (very) slightly taller than you.

My TM drivers were standard at 45 inches. As an experiment I cut my r7425 down to 43 inches and my Superquad down to 44 inches. There is minimal if any loss of distance at 44 inches and it is much more controllable. 43 inches gives you swingweight issues - a good reason to have MWT as you can add weight easily - but loss of distance was virtually unnoticeable . I decided that 44 inches was perfect and can thoroughly recommend that you try that length. 43 inches was standard length in the 80s I think - it is now 3 wood length.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Would yall go w/ the stock RE*AX Superfast 49 shaft or a UST Proforce V2 65? They give you a few custom options on golfsmith for the same price so I figured whichever would be the best for the money.

49 grams is awful light for a driver shaft... but TM did match this shaft with this head. I think I personally would get the V2 65, but without actually hitting balls with either one, who knows. Certainly a heavier shaft should give you more control, but since you are already getting it shortened, maybe try the RE*AX... I'm not really any help, sorry.

All thoughts help. I tend to like heavier shafts it seems. I played graphite shafted irons for a while, but ended up back w/ steel shafts which I prefer. My current setup is a 64g shaft, and as far as the weight goes it feels fine to me. I was a little surprised at how light the stock offering was, but they say thats to help increase swing speed.

Good luck....it can be tough getting clubs that fit sometimes.

Keep in mind the club flex may change a bit by shortening it.
