The local Dicks Sporting Goods has the Taylormade RAC Satin Wedges for 2 for $100. I was wanting to know, would the Taylormade wedges be an upgrade to the wedges I currently have? I have the Adams Tom Watson wedges currently. I was wondering if it would be a good upgrade, or if I should just put up the money to buy the more expensive wedges. Thanks!

The ad says wedge and a putter, but the guy at the store told me you could get 2 wedges if you wanted.

JMHO, these would be an upgrade for the OP. These wedges have great feel and feedback. I found them to be more consistant on chips than any wedge I've used. I had the black 56.12 and the 60 in a 7* bounce I think it was? Somewhat underated wedges except by TaylorMade afecinados. At 2 for $100, I don't see how you could go wrong.

I've never been a huge fan of TM wedges, but plenty of people are. I saw this deal and the only thing is these wedges do not have the max grooves (I think TM calls them Zip Grooves or something like that). They are an older model from 2-3 years ago or so. However, the price is right ("Come on down...").

I think I can help a bit.

I started off playing the 3 set of wedges... tom watson adamsgolf wedges.

About a month or so ago I upgraded to a customized to my dimensions/shaft tm z tp wedge.

ITS A HUUUUUUUUUUUGE step up. And that's an understatement.

I get noticibly more spin with my new 54 than I did with my old 56 (I stopped playing the 60 and never really liked the 52...)

I'm not sure how much is the club and how much is the different dimensions (+1" , 4* up, rifle spinner shaft) but my sand wedge 56* distance went from impossible to get past 80 yards... to being able to push 115 with the tm 54*.

Greenside chips had a noticible check compared to the old wedge as well.

At 2 for a $100, I'd say its a steal if you fit standard specs.

I had the black tp wedges which have the "Y-cutter grooves" while my friend had the original racs, and I honestly couldn't tell a big difference between the two in terms of performance. I also think they'd be an improvement over your current wedges at a good price!

i personally just took advantage of this offer. i bought the 56* wedge along with the taylor made rossa putter that is offered. i just hit the 56* wedge for the first time today at the range and i was really happy with it.

with my old sand wedge my range was only 80-100 with a full swing. the dome i hit in was only about 80 yds long but i had no problem hitting the back wall in the air. then i moved over onto the small chipping area/green thats in the dome and worked on a few short chips, basically just pitching on and trying to get close enough for a one putt. i was able to get quite a bit of spin with the club when i opened it up a bit more. definatley happy with the purchase so far. we'll see how i do with it out on the course though.

It would only be an upgrade if you hit the new wedges better than the last two. If you hit your wedges well now, no real reason to switch honestly.

Exactly.

I have the RAC TP Satin wedges and three different sets of the Adams Watson wedges. I like the 2007 Satin Watson wedges the best and that's what I've been gaming for the past year. They look the best at address to me, I like the bounce and sole grind and most importantly I hit them really well. I'd say the RAC TPs are my second favorite wedge and if I had to switch that's what I'd use.

    • Day 24: did a stack session. Worked a bit on downswing feels during breaks.
    • Day 444 - 2025-12-18 Light day of hotel room work. GEARS Summit v2.0 today. Good day.
    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
