Should the PGA Tour go Soft Spikes only?

I thought Vijay confronted him about them? Maybe I'm remembering the story wrong.

He confronted Phil about the length of the spikes. He felt they were illegal because they were too long.

As for having to putt over the occasional spike mark, they have the opportunity to repair it like they do a ball mark.

Rule 16-1c permits the repair of old hole plugs and ball marks but does not permit the repair of spike damage or other irregularities of surface on the putting green if they are on a player's line of play or putt or might assist him in his subsequent play of the hole.

c. Repair of Hole Plugs, Ball Marks and Other Damage The player may repair an old hole plug or damage to the putting green caused by the impact of a ball, whether or not the player's ball lies on the putting green. If a ball or ball-marker is accidentally moved in the process of the repair, the ball or ball-marker must be replaced. There is no penalty, provided the movement of the ball or ball-marker is directly attributable to the specific act of repairing an old hole plug or damage to the putting green caused by the impact of a ball. Otherwise, Rule 18 applies. Any other damage to the putting green must not be repaired if it might assist the player in his subsequent play of the hole.

I more wonder if it's a fairness issue - either they should go soft spikes only or allow tamping down of spike marks. I know I would be pissed if I was wearing soft spikes and then had to deal with Phil dragging his feet all over the green in front of me, while he had no such issues.

its not just phil dude...you would be suprised at the number of them that use metal spikes.

Ha, love the photo and name (above). Courses should make the call on this. It is their turf. If they want metal spikes banned on their course, play by their rules.

I am going to say yes. I mean the rest of us switched then the pros should definately switch. ( tell ya the truth I've never has a pair of regular spikes)
