Any good league Ryder Cup formats (2 days)?

In the past, we have played a Chapman Format, which goes like this using 2-man teams:

Both players tee off. Player 1 plays player 2's tee shot and vice versa. After that, you pick the best 2nd shot and play alternate shot from there with only that ball.

It seems like it should be a fun format, but it actually sucks, especially in a league with a wide range of talent. Usually what happens is the better player hits the best second shot, so the poor player is playing the 3rd shot (assuming the worse player does not duff his drive). I often found that I would hit the green and then my B-level partner would either a) never cash in on a makeable birdie putt or b) run it 10 feet by on his first putt, forcing me to try and can a 10-footer for par on every hole.

We play individual match play every week and for some reason people seem reluctant to just do best-ball, so any other format suggestions?

We do a cross town rivalry every year and this is our format.

Day 1:
2 man team best ball Front nine
2 man team modified scotch (alternate shot)

Day 2:
18 hole Individual match play (matched by handicap/captains)

It is a blast!!! Play Straight up no handicaps. hence pairing up by handicaps + or - a few shots.

Captains make pairings. Great times.

Yeah, I think the problem last year was that the captains didn't do a good job in making the partners. Ideally you should have equally skilled players as partners so you are generally hitting your second shot from where you normally would. Instead, they had a lot of pairings like a 5 with a 25 HCP, so your 5HCP ends up hitting a lot of long irons and fairway woods while your high handicapper ends up flubbing short irons.

Obviously with best ball you can use handicaps to balance out skill levels. If you have a wide range of handicaps you have to do something, either pair up disparate skill levels or use handicaps. Or have multiple flights. You can use a fraction (90% or 75%) of handicap. We do something like this for our club team championships.

They used 2-man scramble in Tavistock Cup I believe, also a possibility.

We have a CUP that is passed back and forth just like the Ryder Cup

We use the standard Ryder Cup points format.
