Aside from the "I've never really had my own driver" adjust the loft, open the face, shut the face crap... what is the difference between the R9 and the R7 limited??

Now, I haven't hit either of them, nor do I even know anyone who has, but based off of looks and clubhead technology... they look extremely similar. Is the only difference between the two that the R9 now has the ability to open/close the face and increase/decrease loft? I really don't want the ability to do all that in a driver, although increasing/decreasing loft based on the course conditions is an intriguing prospect.

So... yeah. What is the deal here? Is there a difference?

P.S. Also, what's the deal with the TP versions of each?

I've heard that it comes in very handy if you need to hit a draw/fade or loft or deloft from hole to hole because you don't need to vary what you do with your swing or grip as much, you just tweak the clubhead.

As for the TP, I assume they have the weight forward and up, and the face is opened a bit more. Maybe slightly different lofts.

Well, the only problem there is that it's against the rules of golf to adjust your clubs during the round. So for anyone who plays in tournaments or matches, that's out. Aside from that, I've already got a pretty reliable way to hit a draw or fade as the hole calls for, so I'm not really looking for that. The only thing that interests me even a tiny bit about that is the loft/deloft option specifically to take the ballflight down a bit when playing a links style course, etc.

This is the question im asking myself right now. I don't see a reason for many people to change if they have any taylormade driver what was made within the last 2 years. The r9 seems like it has to many parts to it, and that it could fall apart, or you could lose some pop off the ball from it.

Good point. I mean, I'm sure they did enough R&D; that the head won't fly off on the downswing, but all the gadgets and gizmos concern me a bit. The thing I'd be most concerned with is the feel, I feel like all these drivers with the adjustable crap at the end of the shaft would mute the feel, which along with sound are very important to me in every club.

In the promo video it shows pros adjusting it on the teebox.

That's just a promo vid. If they did that during a round they would have penalties assessed. If its just a practice round then you could change it as much as you want, but you couldn't use that round towards your handicap.

I know this question is over 2 years old, and it took me that long to figure out this answer. No, I don't change the club head direction on the golf course. But after going out to the range and trying to figure this question out my self. I have realized the difference even if it may be minor, depends on your game. If your a scratch golfer this is a great club head- the r9 shaft is terrible from pro- prospectives. As a less than medicore golfer I would recommend this club to someone who wants to invest time and money. But nobody wants that in a golf game right? lol honestly best driver i've ever played, only took me a few years to learn the draws and fades of the club. Compared to other drivers and yes I am being biased since I own the club. I'm happy with the club for now and right now it's already outdated so sucks for me. O well if your at at a golf repo and don't have bucks and can find this club for a decent price buy it and find the right adjustment/swing on the range and you will never regret this club. The center fades you can put on this club are amazing or its just my swing even though i have a natural draw
