In the bye week between the first and second half of our league, we have a 2 clubs and a putter round. I usually pick my 7 wood and 8 iron. Most of the field shoots within 5-7 strokes of their usual score. You can surprise yourself with how creative you can be when you don't have your standard club available. 14 clubs is almost too many.

we have 3 club competitions all the time... i go 3w/6i/pw... i use my 3w to putt with... just choke down really far on the shaft... i dont do that bad with that setup

Had an idea about wanting to play my irons better...

my negative is that according to you, you give away 20+ strokes with putting and you are working on your iron game...
I had lots of 4 putts and one 5 putt...

okay...

I always putt for birdie on most holes

THEN WHY WORK ON YOUR IRONS FOR A MONTH??

That is the must frustrating thing to me right now...

I'm sorry, but this thread is also frustrating me right now. Not to mention my B.S. radar is going off full force.

that is priceless... BS radar... love it.

honest, I almost always putt for birdie but my handicap is 27.4. I also like to leap tall buildings in a single bound... back to reality... if I only missed 5 greens a round, I would be scratch or VERY close.

Just for the heck of it I tried using nothing longer than a 7 iron and shot low 80s on two consecutive days. Then I became a student of the golf swing and haven't been able to break 90 since.

Say what you want... I still want to work on my irons before putting.

I want to work on one aspect of the game at a time. There is no need to try to work on everything at once. I want to get better at my Iron Striking and course management and setup for my goto club on my approach shot. Call it BS or whatever you want, but I just started playing and I know I suck, by my iron is the best part of my game which I have been working on. Why work on so many aspect of the game all at once instead of just one peice at a time... Oh well... People got a right to their opioion... Call it BS or say I am stupid for want to learn my irons instead of putting... I want to spend the next month on my iron to really improve that part of my game and then I can concentrate on Putting... Like I said Don't want to try to many things at once. that is when too many things go wrong... for everyone with the encouragement... thank you and for the great idea about the two ball putting... Here is another idea...take only your 9 iron. Only. No score card. No putter. Forget about what you score. This will give you a real good idea about shape and feel and how you play each shot. . I am not saying it will improve your iron game but will improve how you approach your game the next time out with the other 13 cubs.

If longer clubs lead to more errors, then find the club length that optimizes your score.

More often than not, with nothing longer than a 7 iron I can par all of the 3's and 5's which is a 10 handicap.

FLAME ON

are you in the fantastic four?

anyways, I'm not trying to flame your thread. it's just.... well.... you say you putt for birdie on every hole, right? So how bad could your driving and iron game be that you would have to work on that before putting? It took me years and years of practice and rounds to even become a single digit HC, although it's slipping my grasp with every round I play, but I don't putt for birdie on every hole. there's no way you could possibly 4-5 putt every hole. no human on earth could do that unless they were trying to. P.S. i'm sorry about the B.S. radar comment, but honestly....the radar never lies.. lol
