A-wedge vs G-wedge

Dumb question, I know. But what is the difference?

From what I've seen the only difference is the manufacturer. Some call a 49-53 degree wedge a Gap wedge because it fills the gap between PW and SW, while other call it an Approach or Attack wedge. Other than just the designation on the wedge itself I've not seen any difference. Both are in the same loft range. I know Cleveland used to call it a D wedge, which stood for Dual (or perhaps 'duel' wedge if you happen to be in a heated match ). Like most things in the golf industry there is very little 'standardization'. Companies just seem to do whatever they want.

Yup, PiKapp has it right. A, G, D, and U wedges are pretty much the same general range. Note that some sets have a 50° pitching wedge, making the gap wedge unneeded for these sets. They're rare, though.
