Hi all…. I am new here so be gentle with me…

I have hit a plateau with my game. When I started golfing 3 years ago I had no formal lessons and picked up a cheap $150 set of clubs from one of these online clone retailers. I was shooting 120 – 130 and was just excited to be on a golf course. Since then my swing has developed with tips from my golfing buddies and I my score has been decreasing. I have been shooting right around 100 consistently for 6 months now, but I seem to have hit a plateau. The question is what do I about it. I have been thinking in circular logic about this for a while and I need input on my 2 thought patterns.

LESSONS
Do I get lessons with my current equipment to make sure my swing is what is should be then get a fitting and new clubs and go from there?
OR
Should I get a fitting and new clubs then take lessons with them?

I want to make sure I get the right clubs for my game, but I don’t want to learn on equipment that may be substandard then change everything around and relearn with new clubs.

CLUBS
It is definitely time for some new clubs… I have problems with hitting my 3-5 iron but hit my hybrid 3 just fine.

Do I get a set of progressive hybrid irons since they will have an immediate impact on my game?
OR
Would that be a crutch that would hurt me in the long run and I should get some open cavity clubs and just learn to play them better. (I don’t think I am ready to entertain the idea of blades yet.)

Usually the best bet is to start with lessons, then assess your club needs (with the help of your instructor if possible). Getting clubs before lessons can be tricky since you do not know what you game is going to look like afterwards (unless you are already a good, consistent player). It is possible that your instructor could even make some recommendations after a few lessons, but before you're done. For a proper fitting you need to have a cosistently repeatable swing.

The only thing I would add to the above is... nothing. Great advice!

    • Three women were playing on the fourteenth hole, walking up to the green when out of the bushes come a very well endowed masked naked man running across the green in front of them, into the bushes on the other side.   The first lady gasped and said, "That wasn't my husband"  The second lady sighed and said, "That wasn't my husband"  The third lady said, "That wasn't anyone from THIS Club!"

    • Played 9 yesterday at Cape Ann in Essex, MA. Played awful with maybe 4 really good shots but the course is so beautiful being right on the water it's hard to be to upset. I haven't practiced in forever so I'll need to get going on that.  Been better getting to the gym since I've been out here in NH. I came out from Minnesota for my well being so I figured I should be working on just that. Still hovering around 226 which surprises me as my sister in law feeds me quite well. Excited to be back east for the Celtics coronation. Go Celts!!!
