I bought a dozen of them at Dick's a while back because I heard they were a good wind ball.

They may be a good wind ball, but I went through six in nine holes. They shred like a mofo.

I also sucked a ball back 40 feet on a 3/4 sand wedge shot to an elevated green. That's too much spin... if the HX Tour spins this much, how much does the freakin' HX Tour 56 spin? Jeez!

I traded the remaining six in for two sleeves of Pro V1x.

Erik -- Did you feel these were less durable than the TP Blacks? We're these the 2006 HX Tours (which are supposed to be more durable)? I'm kind of torn on that issue. I still scuff up the new HX like crazy, but I don't put "gills" in them as deeply as I did the TP Blacks. I thought the Blacks were longer than most balls I've played (including the HX) on average, but durability was not good. If the price was the same, I'd probably play the TPs over the HX on performance, but either is an expensive ball to play if you are at all prone to roughing them up. Now to try the TP Reds...

Erik's right about the spin on the HXs. I've had these suck back as much as 25-30 feet (and I really don't have a problem with spin as a rule).

Yes, they were the "Improved" ones, and yes, they were less durable. Probably triply less durable.

Let me put it this way. I played one black for 18 holes. It was as beat up as an HX Tour after two holes.

They spin too much for a low-spin version of a ball, yeah.

    • the rules have changed, but this would fall under 11.2 in the current rules.  General Penalty to any player who deliberately deflects a ball in motion, and you must replay the putt.
    • Day 250 4-29 Getting chest through with speed on downswing and wrist arch. Also worked on some moving the pelvis slightly away in the backswing. Feel like im going too fast and long, looks like it on the recordings too.
    • Interesting that it's no penalty, but then again, I can't imagine someone would purposefully put their foot out there in this situation or one like it.  And then there was the time someone purposefully deflected his own ball during a major, but that's very different too. The only time I can recall a ball I hit hitting another player or their equipment was ages ago -- over a decade and a half ago.  I had a 3' putt for an 89 and someone (a random pairing, not someone I knew) decided it was a good time for goaltending practice.  That wouldn't fall under this rule, though (and it wasn't in a tournament anyway). Thanks for continuing to share these, Dave!  I always find these interesting.
    • Day 51 (29 Apr 26) - Worked with a few of the golf team kids plus my grandson (he’s too young for the team as it’s middle-high school age and he’ll be 10 Sat).  He put on a small hitting clinic (hitting off the same tees as the rest of the boys) - one of the older kids called him a “coach”.  Worked in a few shots for myself - had the light bag: driver, 7w, 4 - 6 - 8 - Pw - Sw (DCI 962’s except the Sw a 981) and Zebra putter….got in some great tee shots, a couple of recovery and an awesome up and down for bogie: 55 yds out, hitting 4th shot due to 2nd getting tangled in limbs - see the window I need to hit for a tight spinner with the Sw - nail it to a postage letter distance from the cup for a tap in bogie….my kind of practice.
    • Day 21, April 29.  Before going to work this morning, I worked in my indoor practice room for 20 minutes.   This was entirely 6-iron shots with the usual step.  Video yesterday showed me that I'm still straightening my trail leg too much (leading to the backswing length issue I've been working to fix), so I focused on not doing that in my rehearsal swings.
