Hey everyone, I've been playingfor about a year now and im sick and tired of my crappy Confidence golf Callaway knockoff irons. When I hit them they make a hollow "clack" sound. I havent broken 100 yet (but I did make my first birdie the other day! Par 3, 145 Yards, 8-iron put it 6 inches from the pin after a 5 foot roll.) I'm pretty sure I'm a 30+ handicap i usually shoot between 115-125 (which is horrible I know but im working on it.) I have narrowed my choices down to the following 3 iron sets but I need your opinion.

1. Cobra SZ - 4-AW

2. Cleveland Launcher - 3,4,5 Hyb, 6-PW

3. Nike Sumo - 4-AW

Please let me know on here or email me at JDonaggio@gmail.com THANKS!

Try and demo each. Many golf shops will let you play a round or two with them. Get whichever set feels the best...

Smile, it makes people wonder what you're up to...

MX700 Hybrid Cleveland CG14 50 degree wedge Nike SV 56 degree wedgeReid Lockhart 56 degree sandwedge (plays like a 60 degree, hence the two 56 degree wedges) Odyssey...

If I had to choose, I'd go with the Cleveland sticks.

Though honestly at this point in your game, any game improvement iron set worth $200 or so should do the trick.

i would consider lessons to be the best money you can spend. Find a quality pro, or a group lesson package some place. You will be amazed at how quickly your game improves.

Also consider Callaway's preowned website - they have a return policy if for some reason you don't like what you find.

being a lefty myself, I find it difficult to demo alot of different clubs, the selection is much thinner then other places.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

hireko acer xk irons....golf digest had them on their budget guide in the hot list 2009 issue. they are great, and at about 200 bucks you can easily afford to get some lessons and play some nice course...you'll be breaking 90 faster than you know it. i know it doesn't have the allure of the big brands, but hireko has some top notch engineers and they put forth a very solid product. i see you've got a 3 hybrid, i'd recommend adding a 4 hybrid as well, and playing 5-pw

in my bag:

Driver: '08 Cobra F Speed LD 10.5 w/UST Proforce V2 Tour Flight stiff

Fairway: Adams Speedline Fast10 3-wood w/Aldila Wasabi stiff
Hybrid: Nickent 3dx 3H
Irons: Nike CCI forged 4-pw Wedges: Nike Victory Red 52 56 60 Putter: Rife Mr. Beasley Balls: Bridgestone B330-RX Tees: epoch

+1 on Hireko. I recently purchased from them. The XK line looks really nice - they also have a few different options within the line

an XK HT that is for beginners that is a thicker soled club standard XK and an XK tour or pro (can't remember) that has less offset and less cavity.

The only problem is that very few golf shops carry lefty clubs for demos. I always get "oh I need a week at least to get them from my rep." Which sucks because I end up having to wait 3 weeks or so to try each club. The Sumo is the softest feeling, the Cobra i think is the best balance of everything I want, and I havent had a chance to play with the Clevelands. I was looking at Cleveland CG Golds for $299 or Adams A30S for $399 as well. The Nike's are $399, the Cobras are $499, and the Clevelands are $599 but come with Hybrids.

This is my first time hearing of the Hireko's and it seems like they have gotten great reviews. I'd say give them a go!

I just picked up a set of Adams OS3 from Dicks Sporting Goods for $399. I am loving them. I really wanted to get some new hybrids & saw the set for only slightly more than 3 new hybrids so I hit them & bought them. Go try them, I think you will like them. I replaced a set of Callaway X-16's with the Adams & find the Adams easier to hit.

Yea the Adams are something I've considered hit and considered since A3OS are $399 pretty much everywhere right now (Rockbottom golf has A2OS for $299 i think but I dont think they have any more lefties.)

I took the first smart step and decided to demo the SZ and the SUMO. I have each in a 6 iron in my car right now and im going to the PGA National course in Port St Lucie, FL this weekend to try them out (Im at school in West Palm Beach but go to PSL on the weekends and stay and play golf with my cousins) Side note, this place is amazing if your ever in FL try to make a trip there it has the PGA hall of fame, they have the Ryder Cup on display there right now, and they have an unbelievable chipping/putting area with 3 greens and 7 different types of bunkers.

I would say keep on trying to try out different sets at stores. Even if the shop doesnt have the set you want see if they have any leftys to try. you never know you might stumble on a set you really like. also if pricing is a big deal i would check out ebay for shore. I got a set of taylormade burners 4-pw for $300. you just have to keep looking. good luck

If you like taylormade irons then i would check them out. The new burners are super forgiving aswell as the new r7 rac irons. For a beginner these would be clubs that you could use forever and a solid custom fitting would help you for sure.
