I have been using the Vardon grip for as long as I have been playing. Mind you I am not too good as it is, but I gave the ten finger (baseball) grip a try today for nine holes. My game improved drastically. I was hitting with my irons like I haven't hit in a long time. Thinking bout just going with the new grip from now on. I read somewhere that there were some disadvantages to that type of grip. Any thoughts?

I'm not convinced that there's any advantage/disadvantage to any grip- 10 finger, Vardon or interlocking. IMO there's only a couple of things required of your grip;
1. The club should pass through your fingers not your palms.
2. Your palms should be facing each other.

It's your only connection with the club and should be comfortable.

Played 18 today with this grip and it seems like yesterday never happened. I think I spend way too much time at the course and not enough at the range.

I think that grip may lead to small inconsistencies and that's why you don't EVER see a pro hold the club that way. I mean in baseball the club is uniform the entire way around to you don't have to hit with the "face" in a specific orientation - it seems there are different requirements from the swing so their may be a need for a different grip...

I used to use a ten-finger grip. Never consistent. So I changed to an interlocking grip. Getting there, but not quite.

Now I play a Vardon grip and I'm more consistent, and I think it's a lot more comfortable.

Over ten years ago I switched to the baseball grip because I have a very pronounced lag (Sergio would be proud) which was leading to a flip hook. The baseball grip slows the release down a bit. That allowed me to keep the face square longer through the impact zone. Also, my right hand grip is more in the palm. This keeps my right hand from getting on top of the left (rolling over) and allows me to hit the ball as hard as I want without worrying about going left. Left is never an issue anymore.

My swing thoughts:

- Negative thinking hurts more than negative swinging.
- I let my swing balance me.
- Full extension back and through to the target. - I swing under not around my body. - My club must not twist in my swing. - Keep a soft left knee

Inconsistency may be the only problem.. but if your hitting your irons better then you have the previous couple of years... thats always good!
