Hi again,
If these questions have already been addressed, I apologize. I know the good wedges are used because of the grooves, for spin, bite and other reasons. Yet most company iron sets have gap and sand wedges also. Wouldn’t one want to be consistent with their clubs and used what is in the set? Or, like many out there, one then purchases, say, Cleveland or Vokey wedges for their gap, sand and lob wedges, why not then replace the pitching wedge with these also, and/or their 9 iron, if the wedges are available in these lofts? Also, the bounces on wedges are confusing. For the average player, is there a bounce, for each loft, to use as a rule of thumb, or should it depend on the local courses played for the types of bunker sand and roughs? Would my local pro shop know which bounce to sell me? Or would I need different bounces for the same wedge?

With the irons you have, I would consider adding a matched set of wedges. Lob, sand, and gap, is what I would do (60, 56, and 52 degrees). I recently did this and this set up works well for me. Covers many situations and distances. I found a great set of Cleveland 588's in Gunmetal DSG. Great deal from a golf shop on Ebay. Brand new clubs in shrink wrap and they were delivered in 4 days. The bounce on the lob wedge is 3 for tight lies, gap is 10, and sand was higher at 14. These bounce characteristics are good from what I can tell. I think Edwin Watts website had these wedges for $69/each. Maybe sold out by now, these are last years models. Hence the smoking deal. Link below to a set identical to what I got on Ebay....

A big deal?

Purely a matter of personal preference . Some like wedges that match their iron set, some like third party wedges. Some might like wedges that are a matched set. It's whatever works best for YOU. And for the OP, third party wedges are not necessarily "better" than the OEM clubs because of the grooves or any other reason. Again, personal preference. There is one thing about wedges - they get used a lot and over time the grooves do get worn. With third party wedges, it is a little easier to replace them where replacing one or two clubs from an OEM set is not practical or even possible in some cases.

i had a complete set of Titleist DCI 962's from 2i thru Lob Wedge years ago and loved them. i also had a set of Tour Edge V-Blades 3-PW with the matching SW as well. i used that (the matching SW) for full shots mostly and rarely used it out of the sand. now i use a seperate set of wedges that do not match my iron set.

I should add that many like third party wedges better because they may be offered with more options or variations in loft, bounce, etc. than you can get with the OEM set.

    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
    • Day 1 - 2025-12-20 Starting a new streak, of at least 1. With rain dumping for the next week in the north bay area, I'll be a lot of outdoor net work and maybe some putting. About 10 minutes of 7 iron work, focused on the usuals: weight transfer, keeping hands behind me. I'll have more time in the coming days for video review and maybe some Hack Motion.
