Just curious how your golfnerdyness compares to mine.

I watch every tournament, I watch European tour, Champ tour, and Nationwide basically what ever is on.

I also read golf digest way to much.

I cant stop thinking about golf, I will lay in bed and replay my day in my head and think of where I could have improved my shots. Plus I spend about 2 hours a day on this site.

I will chip balls in my front yard for hours, I go to the driving range at least twice a week. I golf at least twice a week usually 3-4 times.

Should I seek help?

You sound almost exactly like me. To your self-assessment, I can add these: I am on about 10 different golf websites every single day and read golf related books almost exclusively (fiction and non-fiction, although not much instruction/theory). Additionally, I go to Golf Galaxy every week at least once - sometimes twice - plus regular trips to Dick's Sporting Goods as well. I will drive quite a bit out of my way to visit other golf retail stores when traveling (that's my siteseeing instead of something stupid like historical monument or other tourist attractions). I go out of my way to try to play all of the golf courses in my area as well as many within about 100 miles (or more). I have very little contact with friends and family that do not play golf because I'd rather play than spend time chitchatting about stuff I don't care about. I don't really date anymore because I got tired of trying to work time for my girlfriend into my busy golf schedule.

In short, I'm beyond help.

Lol, you need a chick that plays golf.

All of my friends play golf, but none are quite as addicted as I am. its a good thing we all have the same interests, Golf, Cigars, Beer, scotch, guns, and Grilling.

I wish we had a golf galaxy here, we have dicks (small golf section compared to others Ive been to) and Golf Headquaters, which is weird, bevause for a town the size of ours (200k+ with the 3 suberbs,) we have 4 country clubs, 8 public courses, and like 5 driving ranges. Our public courses are actually pretty well maintained and off easy to fairly difficult, and our golf is cheap most expensive public course is $50 for 18 and a cart.

Golf Crackhead here...maybe meth status?

Golf Channel or Golf on other networks is on 95% of the time, do watch some Indy Car and Formula 1, but that is what Tivo is "fore". Stopped watching important stuff like CNBC, FOX, etc... Finally figured out they are all used car salesmen.

Have caddyshack, the foursome, and greatest game ever played, permenantly saved on Tivo, watch each at least once a week.

Play in league, go ball hawking on the course I live on (after hours of course, and after I putt on the green), etc...

When I have nothing better to do search ebay for real golf "deals"

I vote for hopelessly obsessed, but I'm probably somewhere between that and above average.

I get two golf magazines, generally turn to the Golf Channel first, play about once a week and hit the range 1-2 times a week. I constantly shop for clubs (though rarely buy them), and I have PGA tournaments set to automatically record on my DVR.

But I have other interests too, and with a toddler (and two on the way) I can't play and watch as much as I'd like.

I'd have to put myself near the sugar or caffeine addiction level, it's strong but deceptive. I go to a place called Golf and Ski warehouse, I assume it's just like Golf Galaxy, indoor putting green, full lineup of gear, indoor/outdoor ranges and swing monitoring. I'm there for some reason or another 3-4 days every week.

I get out to the driving range 3-4 days a week, and play golf once or twice per week depending on where I can get out for cheap money!

I'm not as big into TV or Magazines, but Golf Digest and such are always the first I look for when I'm at an office or something. I do watch most every PGA tourney, and have been watching a lot more of the Nationwide and Euro tours this year, but probably not as bad as most.

Golf related forums are definitely a new experience for me, so as far as my golf nerdiness, I'd have to place myself around a 7/10. I like to think I understand the physics and science behind the game better than the average joe, but by no means am I a master of all things golf.

I have to hide it. I have to appear to not be so rabid about it until my wife gets on the same page. She's reading the book so to speak, but I'm 200 pages ahead of her right now.

I deliberately put on a baseball game instead of the Golf Channel just so I appear to maintain some balance. I haven't been in it for too long, but if I could be involved in golf 24/7 I probably would.

As I was lying in bed last night I had my hands out in front of me in my Vardon grip and I was thinking about the wrist cock.

For sure crack head.

I don't really read much instruction or read that much, but I am on this every day at work to banter about what??

I think more about golf than my wife, would rather play than go out with my buddies, and it has almost cost me my marriage (I just got her started so hopefully that could save it).

I really have no idea why. I am not that good, I hit wild shots, terribly inconsistant, could be driving a great car if it weren't for..........

What is that evil laughter I hear from afar?

Oh yes, it is the equipment manufacturing execs peering down on us from on high and wringing their hands.

By the way, is that Taylormade's newest driver in her hand? Where can I get one?

I voted for "golf crackhead." If three bags of clubs, four shoe boxes worth of balls and measuring the offset of two different clubs in order to provide information on a post is not an indication, then I really don't know what is.

Yes it is good to see that the grip of Lord Golf extends his grip to such and extent that it affects our normal vocations. all hail the golf gods for if we do not appease the beast he will strike us down with an errant tee shot from the heavens.

You guys are making me feel so much better about this obsession! I was starting to worry that I was going overboard with it.

Here's my deal - I just got into the game back in Jan./Feb. of this year. I've always been extremely competitive. I played baseball and basketball in high school and was into every intramural sport I could play in college. Since then, I've missed that competitiveness and I ended up channeling that into my professional life at work, which was both a good and bad thing. It was good because I became very good at what I do very quickly, but it was bad because I became a workaholic to a point where it was getting physically, mentally, and emotionally unhealthy.

Now I have something else to direct all that attention to, and as usual I go way overboard Needless to say, this turned out to be a much healthier option.

Like others, I'm on the range at least 3 days out of the work week, and I'm on the course 2-3 days as well. I'll read some tip on here late at night, and want to get up and try it right then and there. During work hours, I'm on here multiple times, and I also hit up most of the major manufacturers websites to see if there are any newly scheduled local demo days that I was unaware of.

I think the other factor in my obsession is that I've come a very long way in a pretty short period of time. Now I'm constantly trying to find ways to get some major consistency. I too check out all the golf magazines, and I catch The Golf Fix every chance I can.

It's so bad that I'm actually getting annoyed with friends (who have played for years) because they dont share the same obsession I do and dont want to go out and hit the course all the time. They're just slackers

Oh yeah, I forgot one other thing. I've actually looked into opening my own shop since there isnt much competition in my area. How awesome it would be to make a living doing something you really love? I have all the plans completely laid out in my head. It's pretty sick!

    • I have been debating getting a launch monitor of some sort, if only so I can re-figure my shot zones (I haven't actually mapped them in years) and also to practice distance wedges at home.  I have to see if this works with either my current setup, or what my setup would be if I move it to the garage.
    • Day 48, June 23.  After work today, I took 25 minutes in my practice room;  6-iron, same everything as yesterday except the time and count.
    • Well, this is interesting.  I think we discovered a few months ago that I haven't been following professional golf in a while (my confusion about Scotty's footwork confirmed that), so at least as I aim to follow a bit more I'll get something new to learn with all of you.  My very quick read of Erik's summary makes me think this new Challenger series fits somewhere between Korn Ferry and the Championship (not Champions, but I know I'm going to make that mistake a few times if I'm not careful!).   My recollection is that there were already second-tier events among the PGA Tour;  the Bob Hope didn't have the same quality of field as the event at Riviera (whose current name I forget, although now that I say that, I realize the Palm Springs event hasn't been called the Bob Hope in a few years either).   With the absence of the FedEx (if I'm reading that correctly), does that mean no more FedEx Cup at all? Hopefully I'll have time later in 2026 to sit down and see what we're in for in 2027, where one of my goals already is to follow more professional golf.
    • The highlights as I see them: Championship and Challenger Series The creation of the PGA Tour and the PGB Tour, in the words of Joel Dahmen a few years ago. They're calling them the Championship Series (23-24 events) and the Challenger Series (20+ events). Both run February to August. They feel this will achieve three things: increasing the consistency and quality of fields across the season creating a clear system for players to earn and retain status and delivering a more structured and competitive experience for fans and partners—all in an effort to strengthen meritocracy. Championship Series Structure and Eligibility The 23-24 events includes the Players, majors, season-ending events, and the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup. These will be 72-hole events with a 36-hole cut to the top 65 and ties and purses of $20M+. 120 players without an alternate list. 90 players (roughly) from the previous year and 20 players promoted from the Challenger Series. Full eligibility will be finalized later this year. Sites (cities) to be finalized soon, but 10 of the 15 courses have already been determined. Postseason: includes retention and relegation and concludes with match play. The Tour Championship will also be played across a rotation of prestigious courses. Challenger Series Structure and Eligibility 20+ events. Running concurrently. Will feature players fighting their way back to the Championship Series or players graduating and on the upswing from the Korn Ferry Tour. Many of these events will be current PGA Tour courses. About 7 of the Challenger Series events will be during off weeks for the Championship Series with elevated purses and visibility. Purses of at least $4M, with cuts similar to the Champ series. 144 player fields. Competitive Fields for Both Series Players will be eligible for only one series at a time: Championship Series Players are not eligible for Challenger Series events. Championship Series members will have a known schedule with all events having the same eligibility. Players and Majors will have their own eligibility criteria. Championship Series players don't have to play all events. This begs the question about, say, the Canadian Open, and other "home-town" events that players might want to play, even if they're Challenger Series events. Will releases be granted? Promotion and Relegation At least 90 players will be retained in the Championship Series, and 20 players will be promoted from the Challenger Series each year. Battlefield promotion for two-time winners from the Challenger Series. Players relegated from the Championship Series will have a "last chance" opportunity to retain status, or will go to the Challenger Series. Criteria will be finalized before the start of the 2027 season. Points System New points system (not FedExCup points). Separate points systems for the Championship and Challenger Series. Elevated points in the Challenger Series for off-weeks on the Championship Series. More details tk. Elevated International Events in the Fall The fall schedule will include a limited series of elevated international events with top players from the Championship Series, with the intent to deliver in partnership with the DP World Tour as part of the Strategic Alliance. Last Chance Series The Tour will develop a “last chance” series of 4-6 events in the fall, with a limited number of spots on the Championship Series available for top finishers. Eligibility will include players relegated from the Championship Series, Challenger Series players, and other categories to be determined. Q-School continues, as do the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour Latinoamerica. Also, Brian Rolapp is the new commissioner as of January 1, 2027.
