This is my first pair of golf spikes so pardon the noob question but one of them tore out on each shoe and a golfing friend of mine said that they must've been defective because he said it looks like something broke off inside the shoe.

So here's my question, is he right? Or do I just need to buy new spikes and a wrench to install them? Why did they come off anyways?

They are Ecco golf shoes BTW.

What kind of replacement spikes should I buy?

first of all ecco makes a very good quality shoe. i doubt the fact that something inside the shoe broke. it is a possibility that you had a defective spike or maybe just twisted on it in a weird way to make it brake. as far as replacement spikes go i've always used softspikes or black widows and have never had a problem with either. hope this helps.

Go to the SoftSpikes site and look. Or the ecco site. Unscrew one of the other cleats and look to see if the hole looks the same. There are only a few types of spikes. I also can't tell what part of the shoe that is... where's the rest of the shoe?

From the image you posted, it looks like there's nothing wrong with the shoe.

It also looks like this may be your shoe, so you'll Q-lok type spikes:

When you fit new spikes, make sure they're tightened correctly (not too loose / tight), and there's no harm checking them from time to time.

I found out on the web how to remove them(wanted to make sure so I didn't break them) and they are definitely Q-Fit. Thanks for the help.
