When looking at videos of my swing, I see that I tilt forward with the spine. Causing a reverse pivot, but also putting my torso in a difficult position.

I've been reviewing videos of Tiger and testing some, and concluded with this:

1. Torso turn and arms raise, tension in hips
2. No lateral movement, torso is turned around spine and weight on the back foot because of arms extended to the back
3. A small lateral movement in hips, weight shift to left foot
4. Hips turn, torso and arms trail behind without much lateral movement except what is caused by the hips

This was commented on my swing when I sent it to The Swing Check on this forum, but I didn't understand the meaning of it before now. The position of the torso is very important if the rest of the swing is going to work out. You can have perfect legwork, but if the torso fall forwards, everything will collapse down on the ball. Two of my playing partners does the exact same thing.

Also see that this is essential to creating lag with the wrists. With the torso above the forward foot, you'll have a hard time even hitting the ball without casting. I've worked on weight transfer, but kept falling forwards without knowing why. I knew it was a positive sign since I was doing something different, but didn't understand why. Now I do, the reason is my torso moving forward in the backswing. Gives me no room to swing in, when I come down and hit the ball I will be thrown even further ahead and lose balance.

This position at the top also promotes the move over the top and swinging with the arms first.

Each day I find a solution to something in my swing is a good day.

Sounds like you have got it pretty much figured out. I always like the analogy of skipping flat rocks on a pond of water.

One of my thoughts for this hip, leg movement is to build what a lot of swing coaches call the "reverse-C". That is pushing your hips out as you turn through the ball, while keeping your head behind the ball.

An old swing instructor of mine said the feeling is something like "move your head backward just before contact".

You can't really move your head backward if you are shifting your weight, but you can try out the feeling and it will keep you from falling forward.

That's a good idea. I see from my swing that my head moves an awful lot. Looking at Tiger, he drops it slightly when shifting weight and the lateral hip bump at the top. Ben Hogan does the same, but a bit more lateral movement on him. "Keep your head still" is a common phrase, and here I see I can use it. Not completely still throughout the swing perhaps, but at least from the top and through until the finish. I remember reading an article with tips from Tiger where he said he emphasized keeping the head still. Sounds like a useful way to help keep the torso still, seeing as they are attached. TMO says to keep the back eye over the back foot.

    • Day 56 - 2024-11-15 Light day. Lots of catch-up work. Checked the grip to make sure I wasn't compensating there, and did a little backswing work.
    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.
